Birchwood Restaurant in Invermere is the best restaurant in the valley, probably. Also, Hot Spot in Windermere has superb pizza as well. Invermere has a great market on Saturday - probably has the most to do overall.

I really liked Kicking Horse at Golden...a little more on the way to Vernon too. The Eagle Eye restaurant is pretty cool.

Check out Copperpoint Resort at Invermere. It's main focus is golf, but you don't need to dabble.
I really like the accommodations there, it's modern, nice restaurant/bar, good scenic views of the valley, and great pool area. I believe it has a spa as well.

if those are your two choices go with invermere. more to do there, and some place to walk around, if walking is your bag.
also pepi's pizza place in invermere for the win.
if you wanted a third option, i'd suggest revelstoke. they have the train museum and you can take a tour of the dam, and revie is a little mroe cool than either of the 'mere's.

If I was doing that drive and looking to break it up I'd stay at the Post in Lake Louise given the criteria for what you're looking for.

I'd choose neither on the basis of them being a 1-1.5 hour detour off your route and go for the Chateau or Post in Lake Louise if they fit the budget.
If I had to choose, Windermere or Invermere. Radium's kind of just an arid unsightly 3 way intersection in my mind.

I try to hit Invermere once a year when we head out to Salt Spring. So my vote is Nelson.

Had the PLT Pizza at Hopkins Harvest in Windermere last weekend. One of the best pizza's I've ever had!

They sometimes have cancellations at Lake O'Hara...

That would be the best. And it's on the way.

Not sure about how much is open in summer (though probably deals to be had), but on the ski hill at Golden or Revelstoke would be more on your way, have good spas, etc.

They're both open. Golden has hiking/biking. Revy I don't think the lifts open but the village should be as they have trail biking and that luge thing.
Either one of those would be better IMO, Invermere/Radium is way out of the way from Calgary->Vernon if you're not actually doing anything specific in the valley.
Revy is a great little town, lots of restaurant choices and likely higher-end lodging.

I would second Copper Point resort. Get a couples massage at the spa there.

If you're all about the spa you can not beat predator ridge. And it's right in Vernon.

Any suggestions for good hikes in the area?
I've perused some sites but first hand recommendations are always nice.

I agree. I spend a lot of time in Windermere, (cottage/lake etc), and with your criteria I suggest stopping along the way somewhere romantic.
The Post is fantastic. Or the Sutton in Revy.

Up to the Hoodoos south of town is nice. Easy, but a nice little hike.
