Someone on reddit searching for urls noticed http://cavalryfc.canpl.ca/ is live, with a "coming soon" placeholder. I really hoped they would have done something with a better name.

And before I get pounced on for being negative: I remain optimistic. Calgary FC would have been equally boring and unimaginative, but at least it wouldn't have played on the old, tired cliches. Y'all like horsies and oil, right? I just think that Calgary has grown out of being a one trick pony. Pun absolutely intended.
As soon as Spruce Meadows was announced as a venue, Calvary was a done deal in my mind. But... let's see what else they've got up their sleeves.

So I'm thinking that red/white is the odds on favourite for colour. Just my personal opinion.
I'd also say 50/50 that somewhere in the logo and/or wordmark they'll double down on the Calgary/Calvary similarity and try and do something with the g/v so that when you look at it, you can see both at the same time, or the g/v will be obstructed a little, or something like that. Wait for it.

I don't think that red/white as a prediction for a Calgary team is really out on a limb? I would be surprised if it's anything else.

Except that it's Cavalry, not Calvary. Cavalry = horse soldiers. Calvary = site where Jesus was crucified. I expect we'll see this mistake many, many, many times for as long as the team exists.

Well that’s embarrassing. I’m usually better than that.
But think of the cross promotion opportunities. Cross. Promotion.
Ok. I’ll leave.

I actually don't mind the name, I could picture an MLS team with that name. Interesting play on Calgary and pays homage to the standard Calgary horse theme, without calling it "bucking broncos FC".

Not a fan of the name. Could see fans shortening it to Cavs. Come on you Cavs sounds alright but Im not a fan of linking Calgary sports teams to cowboy and/or equine culture.
I'll be a first day seasons ticket holder. I supported PDL hoping it'd lead to something like this and eventually more.
The only saving grace for yet another western themed name is the location. Spruce Meadows is a world famous horse event stadium. That made such a theme inevitable.

Why do teams in North American leagues must feel the need to add "FC" or United in there name. So lame. We get you're a football club. Imagine if all NHL teams started adding "HC".
North American soccer struggles with an inferiority complex that puts puts Edmonton's complex wrt Calgary to shame. Rather than build an identity that is North American, we end up with a lot of "look at us, we're just like Europe!" names. Real Salt Lake being easily the most embarrassing.
I noticed in the PDL that Burnaby has a team this year called the TSS Rovers. TSS standing for "Together Standing Strong". That's just incredibly sad.
