Andy Murray@andy_murray
Bbc just called to say I was PROBABLY going to be named sports personality of the year but I would have to agree to an interview and a major photo shoot. I said probably is no good and took a pass. Thanks anyway!

That's a pretty big change. The team has done well over the years with Laurendeau at the helm.

Could Shapovalov win the Lou Marsh?
Non-Olympic year, nobody stands out.

I bet it goes to either Crosby or McDavid, but Brooke Henderson won twice on the LPGA tour this season, so she should get some votes. Shapo will have some support, but will likely finish 4th or 5th.

Milos is not as bad on clay as people think. Serve is not as strong but equally the ball slows down for his big forehand.

I think Gaby Dabrowski could have won it as well, but doubles (and mixed doubles) just doesn't get as much fanfare as singles. Congrats to Bianca.
Edit: Rounding out the female high performance awards is Gabriela Dabrowski with the female doubles player recognition for the fifth straight year and Carol Zhao as most improved player.

Rafa named ITF men's tennis player of the year. Could have went.to Roger as well but I think the fact that Nadal finished#1 was the deciding factor. Overall great season from both and hope Rafa can get to 17 grand slams and add several more weeks at #1 in 2018

So how about ranking the best matches of the year as we reach the end of it? For me I'd go with...
1. Federer-Kyrgios, Miami
2. Dimitrov-Nadal, Australia
3. Murray-Wawrinka, French
4. Nadal-Shapovalov, Montreal
5. Federer-Nadal, Australia
6. Halep-Sharapova, US Open
7. Monfils-Nishikori, Montreal
8. Kerber-Muguruza, Wimbledon
9. Muller-Nadal, Wimbledon
10. Del Potro-Thiem, US Open
To me #1 is not up for debate, the quality and intensity of the match was sustained basically the entire match. As much as Fed-Nadal in Aussie was historically significant, we really only got one great set so I can't say it was the match of the year and it wasn't even the best match Nadal played in the tournament.

Denis Shapovalov named CP male athlete of the year. Congrats Denis!
Shapovalov collected 20 of 64 votes (31 per cent) in a poll of broadcasters and sports editors from across the country. He edged Sidney Crosby, who led the Pittsburgh Penguins to a second straight Stanley Cup, by a single vote. Slugger Joey Votto of the Cincinnati Reds was third with 11 votes (17 per cent).

Peter Polansky has qualified for the ATP 250 event in Brisbane. Denis and Milos are also playing in Brisbane (Shapo will play Kyle Edmund in the 1st round while Milos has a bye to the 2nd round).
