Default Tocchet could be hired as a Flames assistant coach if he does not get Kraken HC

jonathan davis @westcoasthky
Hearing that if Rick Tocchet does not get the @SeattleKraken HC position he could land in Calgary as an assistant

Well that's a full bench. Holy.

But also, why?

Is there an opening for him in Calgary?

With the Flames just announcing Muller and Maclean to join Huska as assistants to Darryl, this doesn't make sense to me.

Was Tocchet one of the original choices and Darryl went with Muller because Muller had another opportunity and he didn't want to miss out on both of them by waiting to see what would happen with Tocchet? Just me speculating. I have a hard time seeing Tocchet added to this staff.

I feel like this is old news that could have been in the mix prior to Mueller coming in.

Sutter as GM, Tochett as head coach? I am kidding

This is an odd rumor. I wonder when the news will be out if he or someone else gets the job...They should probably start announcing that kind of stuff soon, like before the draft. Maybe after the SCF is over.

Flames are not #%^*ing around with an under-qualified coaching staff anymore it would seem.

Does this mean one more kick at the can with this core under an experienced coaching staff?

The more the better. Gives more one on one time with players.

Well we'd go from having no experienced head coaches going into last season, to having three "head coaches". So that would be something

Tocchet's work as Penguins assistant was legendary

Maclean will be up in the press box, not on the bench.

I'm not 100% sure but if I recall from listening to Darryl talk about the new coaches, he said Huska would run the defence, Muller would be like a 2nd head coach, and Maclean would start in the press box to learn how it goes. Maybe Tocchet takes care of the forwards?

Darryl had Davis Payne (former Blues HC) and John Stevens (former Flyers HC) as his assistants with the the cup winning Kings

As Darryl said, he likes former HC on his staff. Far cry from when it was just him and Rich Preston as the coaching staff in San Jose

Is there a team with 4 coaches behind the bench? Isn’t there typically only 3?

What are the odds? Tocchet will likely take the spread and bet on himself to end up in Calgary.

I think BT is trying to eliminate "Coach's fault" talk from this teams.

MacLean - eye in the sky
Tocchet - forwards
Huska - defencemen
Muller - associate coach (working with and discussing big picture with Darryl)
Darryl - head coach

Is that possible?
