Ducks hire Geoff Ward as an Assistant Coach
Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger
Coaching carousel stops in Anaheim. Former Flames head coach Geoff Ward to join Dallas Eakins staff. Kirk Muller was also a candidate before accepting the job in Calgary.

Glad he got the opportunity. I'll always appreciate the way he was able to come in after the Peters thing and bring some calm and professionalism and steady the ship.
He was in over his head as a head coach with this group and obviously it didn't work out, and I think moving on from him was the right call. So I'm glad he's able to keep going because I think he's a really good NHL assistant coach.
Now boo Ducks and may he never win a game against us.

Geoff seems to be pretty well thought of and by all accounts is a most excellent dude, so it’s good to see him land in a good spot.

He seems to excel in the 'Good Cop' assistant role.

Good for Ward. Hope he sees success there. Not at our expense of course.

Good hockey man. Someone had to be the fall guy and it's usually the Head Coach.

I wouldn't be shocked if Ward once again becomes an interim coach. I think the Dallas Eakins NHL head coach experiment is coming to a close.

Has Ward made any public statement since getting fired? I haven't heard a peep...

Was gonna say, he will be a head coach someday, even if only for part of a season. Heck, maybe that was on their minds.

Not that it impacts the cap, but the Flames are off the hook for any remaining salary owed.

Usually there is a clause were they will continue to pay admin staff out on their contract until another job is obtained (or the contract expires)

Not too surprised someone hired him quickly. You don't have the longevity as an assistant coach like he has if you aren't good at it. I am not convinced he was the problem here as head coach either.

Or may be we are paying a difference between his new salary and old salary.

Yes to both. He has mitigated his damages, at least partially, by getting a new job, therefore has no further losses, or they are reduced. The old team has to give approval to the new team, and almost always does for a couple of reasons:
1) Saves money; and
2) Wants the favour returned if necessary.
We did that with LA and Darryl all those years ago.

I agree. Unfortunately he wasn’t the solution though
Glad to see him getting back and finding a role quickly
