There was a UN environmental conference in Nairobi starting tomorrow, I suspect a lot of them were going to that.

Not sure what you’re trying to say, what I stated is factual. Perhaps do some research on aviation accidents, both recent and historical (and their causes) in continental Africa before spewing meaningless garbage.

Have you looked at the flight data? this aircraft had big trouble getting up to altitude as the VSpeed was all over the place which is eerily similar to the Lion Air crash.
By the way China just grounded it's 737 max fleet
|
So ground the world fleet of a particular aircraft when there is no current evidence there is a fault with the design? That’s logical. China being China, who cares. Again, why not let the investigation play out before jumping to any conclusion?

Ethiopian airlines is actually at or near the top in the entire area of Africa and the middle east for safety, very respected, aside from the 2010 crash in a storm that most people still think was a bomb and that crazy 1996 hijacking crash that hit a coral reef they have been very good, they have top notch maintenance and training.

I can do that too...
BTW, I mentioned researching aviation accidents in all of Africa, by all African carriers, not specifically Ethiopian. Aviation safety is getting better in Africa but much work still needs to be done. Most African countries still haven’t adopted ICAO standards.

Former FAA inspector David Soucie says Boeing should ground all 737 max 8's

While I think Boeing should have informed pilots about the characteristics of the MCAS system, I'm also going to reference a post by Fuzz on the first page.
His brother (a pilot) said that it's easy to tell on the 737 if the stabilizer trim is out of whack. Whether it's a MAX with MCAS or an NG (737-700/800/900) without it, it doesn't matter. Runaway trim is runaway trim - the trim wheel on the 737 makes a lot of noise, and if it's doing something it's not supposed to, the automatic/electric trim can be disabled with the flick of two switches.
https://theaircurrent.com/aviation-s...em-mcas-jt610/
It's way too early to be jumping to conclusions and saying that JT610 and ET302 are identical incidents. The aircraft in the Lion Air crash was potentially not airworthy, and maintenance practices at Lion have come under scrutiny.
Not to mention the comments already made about pilot training and safety standards in third world countries, and how easy it is to disable the automatic trim. Until both investigations are completed, it's irresponsible to suggest grounding every 737 MAX in the world, or to suggest that the plane is a death trap.
https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/eth...nada-1.5051663
(Disclaimer: I'm not a pilot, just an armchair aviation geek, so I can only give you what I interpret based on what I'm reading about the situation. I'm just getting a little tired of all the fear-mongering that the media is doing)

“Wouldn’t hurt”. Huge implications here, you have to balance the risk. How many 737s are in the air?

Something like 370 Max series aircraft - all delivered in about the past two years, those are the ones under discussion.

Not to make this a stock thread, obviously, but wouldn't it be a software issue if anything that would need to be corrected, if the problems those here have mentioned need to be corrected?

Because of the new powerful engines and the forward placements it made the Max want to climb to fast, It(the aircraft) would probably be totally fine if pilots around the world could/would just shut off the new MCAS system and trim their aircraft the old fashion way.

Boeing has committed to releasing a software update for the Flight Control System on the 737 Max 8 (and the Max 9). The FAA has mandated the fix be released no later than April 2019.

Pretty sure I wouldn't fly on one. Two similar crashes in five months seems abnormal to me.

"For the past several months and in the aftermath of Lion Air Flight 610, Boeing has been developing a flight control software enhancement for the 737 Max, designed to make an already safe aircraft even safer," the company said in a statement
You know PR is in a no-win scenario when the only response to "your planes are unsafe" they can come up with is, essentially, "nuh-uh!".
