My issue is suppose you travel for 14 days and on day 7 you get sick. Aren't you not allowed on the plane home? I assume not. Even if it's just a cold, I would think any elevated temperature would keep you stuck away from home. Then what?

That puts spring break trips back on the table. Hawai’i numbers are still a little high though roughly the same as here and appear to be higher in Honolulu then Maui

Going to be a lot of travelers who got infected one to a few days before travel, arrive and test negative at that point in time, get symptoms and/or spread the virus days after.

A Westjet email says Calgary Airport will be administering the test. Not sure if they're the chosen one or Toronto will as well.

If you go to a place with the same level of infection is there any change in risk?

If negative on the first test, they will be required to get a 2nd test after 6-7 days. I think this would capture the vast majority of positive infections.

I don’t know about “a lot”. I will take someone who has been tested vs. someone who promises to quarantine 100 times out of 100.

But how do they enforce that. Isn't 14 day quarantine also required? The quarantine doesn't seem to have any enforcement measures for the couple times I've had to do it.

Apparently this will go into effect at YYC on November 2. Presumably this would allow someone to make a shorter trip to Calgary, say 3 or 4 days but keen to see all the details. I'm not sure those are out yet.

The customs officer at the border crossing last Friday took my number and said they may call me to check in to ensure I'm quarantining but I have yet to receive any communication.

If you get sick, then you should probably be getting a Covid test before getting on a plane, or going out in public generally, I suppose. But yeah, instead of staying at home you'd better be prepared to stay wherever it is you're visiting.

Will today's announcement change anyone's travel plans for Christmas holidays, spring vacations etc?

Sure does for me. I will be able to visit my Dad in Calgary, who I haven't seen in person for 10 months. I'll hand it to him, at 90 he is managing FaceTime pretty well but he misses the grand kids.

Hopefully this opens up a few more flights into Calgary now as well.

No, it's not the need to quarantine that was keeping me from travelling.

Some details

Quote:
Eligible travellers
Eligible candidates returning from international travel:

-returning Canadian citizens
-permanent residents
-foreign nationals currently permitted entry into Canada
-travellers exempt from 14-day quarantine, including essential service workers

In-eligible candidates:

-have signs and symptoms of COVID-19 at the time of entry to Canada
-have been in contact with a confirmed COVID-19 case in the last 14 days
-do not have an acceptable quarantine plan
-returning Canadians proceeding to other provinces (participants must stay in Alberta for 14 days after entering Canada)
domestic travellers (they are not required to quarantine)
Couldn't really say on whether a connecting flight would be eligible too. Say Arrive from Hawaii from Vancouver, but travel domestic from Van to Cgy. I think that will have a impact for my plans over spring break as there are few direct flight from Calgary to where we vacation.

It’s non-stop flights as far as I know, because you’d hit customs arrivals in other cities otherwise.

The report said that of positive cases, over 80% were caught on the first day and the remainder were caught on day 6/7. Nothing was caught after 14 days.

I have emailed the provincial and federal communication people on the presser. A friend of mine asked me if this applies to the people are who participating in federal exemption program for reunification.

It says foreign nationals allowed to enter Canada but that can be students, temporary foreign workers and others.
