Default Mask poll

Do you support the mandatory mask bylaw in indoor public spaces as implemented by the City of Calgary?

Should make the votes public so we can ridicule those that are anti-mask.

I accept it but I would prefer not to have them mandated. I understand they are passing the law because too many in the 20-39 year old group aren't taking things seriously but I wish it didn't come to this. The worst places for getting the virus are the ones they made exceptions for so I just don't see where the progress is going to be.

Generally yes, but I think some exceptions such as the gym and school exceptions are dumb.

So how should I vote?

I support it. I would say I was leaning slightly anti-mask for a while but I’ve worn one a few times and it wasn’t that bad. Couple that with the increase in cases and I’ve changed my tune. Ordered some Flames ones. I’ll likely start wearing mine when they arrive.

Life’s too short to whine about wearing a mask. Just wear one. The sooner we all get on board the sooner we can end this thing.

I still think more is necessary here (restrictions on gyms and bars seems warranted) but masks are a low cost step that helps.

I voted no. I don't ridicule people that wear one. That said, I also live out in the sticks. I head into Edmonton every so often for tools or material and I don't wear one. Just keep my distance.

I don't agree with the ruling as is since it's a half measure. If restaurants and gyms were included, sure. Those are the areas I feel that are the most vulnerable in spread based on my assumptions. To not really address the root of it, just feels like it's for show to indicate they're doing something, while not really making an impact.

People feel this is necessary from what they see on 17th. This isn't going to change it.

So the Calgary bylaw is a “no” for you because you go into Edmonton?

The point was it being private precisely because you want to see honest data without fear of being made fun of.

Then what would be the point of poll?

It has to be anonymous if you want to see the true numbers and not people voting yes to avoid ridicule.

I wonder how many of those 15 voting against this are falling for the many ridiculous conspiracy theories about masks?

I am poorly written. I am a "No" for anywhere.

Because it's being mandated. Humans are notoriously rebellious when forced to do anything, even if it's good for them. The human psyche needs "the illusion of choice", even if there isn't any real choice to be made. It's linked to the emotional brain and not so much the rational brain. The emotional brain always reacts to things like this first as a threat, but if enough information is given, the rational brain can take over and guide decision making.

I’m glad we’re removing much of the ambiguity around mask usage. In the past few weeks I’ve seen 1/10 people on the train wearing them, and 3/4 at the corner gas station with them.

Left to our own devices as humans we’re bad decision makers, clarity is the way to go.

Voted no not because I'm anti-mask, but because it shouldn't be law. I think business should be allowed to, and should, refuse to serve those without masks, I just don't think its something you should be fined/arrested for.
