Noah Hanifin makes terrible reads too, by the way, and relies on his physical tools arguably even more than Kylington does.
To clarify, I am not writing Kylington off by any means, at this point in time I just don't see the top pairing upside others see. If I had to pick a comparable for him it would probably be Kris Russell.

I think it is a close call between Dube and Kylington. I went with Dube as I see Kylington's upside as top 4 (not top 2). I can easily see him being a PP/offensive dman who never becomes good enough defensively to be top 4. Whereas I see Dube as currently a middle six winger/centre with the potential be higher. If you look at his AHL season vs Kylington's season at the same age then can understand where Dube is a potential top 6 player.

Kylington is already a 5/6 D on most other teams in this league, and very close to being a second-pair mainstay on at least a few of them.

Dube is at most a 4th liner right now with middle-six potential.

Kylington is quite easily our next best prospect after Valimaki (in my opinion of course).

Right, but that runs into the inherent problem that we encounter with the prospects poll every year, and that is the variability in method and criteria that every poster employs when participating in this exercise. Some posters rank on pure potential; some on NHL readiness; some attempt to balance both. Hell, sometimes some of us just get a “feeling” about a certain prospect (Pettersen for me), that throws their own ranking out of alignment.

It sure is fun seeing how everyone works through this process. I always find myself learning a tonne every year.

Wow I really thought Kylington would win the poll. I guess forwards just get more love than D-men.

Nary a Hart vote for Gio despite an almost historic season. The biggest reason the Flames were first in the West. But people love them some forwards.

My vote for Dube has nothing to do with Giordano. I think Dube tops out as a top-six forward, but Kylington tops out as a second-pairing defenseman.

FWIW Dube was ranked higher (3rd) than Kylington (6th) last year. Tyler Parsons (4th) is likely to drop, and Mangiapane (5th) and Andresson (2nd) graduated. Not a lot of movement in terms of position from last year after all.

Went with Dube.

I'm also not a huge fan of Kylingtons game. To me it seems like hes one of those all the tools, no toolbox type defensemen. I don't think he has natural hockey IQ, makes some really bad decisions and seems uncomfortable and lost most of the time in our zone.

That said, he is too young for anybody to know what he is and perhaps something will click. IMO he projects to a 5-6-7 offensive specialist, gets some PP, that has to be sheltered. Problem is that type of one dimensional player is pretty much getting phased out of the league.

I honestly feel like the guy would be a much better winger than a defenseman with the way he plays the game. Time will tell.

Good to see Dube take this one- he will surprise people this year if he gets an opportunity on a scoring line at some point.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him get 35+ points and then turn into a 50+ point guy the next season.

Count me a fan too. He played a conservative game to try to win Peters’ trust. He has far more offence to come.

I'm curious about the love that Mathias Emilio Pettersen is getting. Seeing that most of us have extremely limited exposure outside of the handful of prospects at the top, I'd love to hear what those in the know have to say about him.

He looks so damn good. I think he could be NHL-ready in 2020-21, and honestly, I'd be interested to see if the Flames could sign him after his season in Denver ends this year. He looks poised, incredibly confident with the puck, slippery, and while he's not especially tall, he's very thick.

I think I might vote for him at #3.

Kylington for me. I liked him last season. Before he tried to do so much to impress the coach, but last year he started to play smart, and play good defensively and safe.
I think he will stay with the team whole season unless we trade him for a big return.

You were down at the rookie camp? Was definitely excited by his mention in Hayne's article from yesterday. Looks like we have more to be excited about from last year's draft than we have any right to given our draft positioning.

Yeah and I followed along with his season at Denver this year. I'm planning to stream all of their games (that I can) and give some updates on him this coming season. He's one of the most exciting Flames prospects I can remember.

Dube for me.
Over a PPG player in the AHL at 20 years olds. Sign me up. I have top 6 hopes for him.
