Wow...Village Ice Cream is incredible. I bought a pint of toasted coconut, waited for the wife, took one scoop each, then I grabbed the pint, ran to the corner and ate the entire thing myself.

Word of caution...the pints aren't cheap. They are $9 a pop.

Not gourmet or anything, but like someone else referenced, for regular ole grocery store ice cream - we love Safeway's "Moose Tracks". So good.

Lic's Ice Cream shop, in Point McKay ?, just down towards the river from ~ Foothills Hospital-ish area is nice as well.

I stick to the Chapman's No Sugar Added ice cream for the most part. Mostly sweetened with sugar alcohols, so it keeps my net carb intake low.

Though there are occasions I will treat myself to some froyo from Menchies and the like. Man, do I feel like I was hit with a bag of hammers after, though.

Ok, bought the ice cream for the dinner party. Didn't bring enough. We were full after the meal. Had the cardamom and salted caramel. Destroyed it. Buddy's wife forced him to go get more, all while she, my wife and I continued to play board games.

Guys, that cardamom is crazy good.

Village has a location in Britania, never as busy as the DT location. They had a Root Beer flavor this summer that was unbelievable!

I haven't watched the video but will. But certain A&W locations will tell you the milkshake machine is down like 9/10 times you go there, and it used to kill me. I caught on pretty quick that there was probably a reason they're always down.

At the one by my house it was always "down temporarily", but it was obvious it wasn't coincidence.

Wow, that was fascinating, actually. Love how the company actually blurs out the actual critical codes in their videos. "Call the guy" is their solution for the machine, to the tune of 25% of that company's revenue.

Yeah who knows how many of these old gentleman's business arrangements are around dragging down the economy and/or keeping thousands at work doing somewhat skilled jobs. I guess its up to the people who discover them to decide on whether to publish that information or not.

A&W haven’t had their milkshake machines in their stores for over a decade

However, select A&Ws are running a pilot test run of their new machines (installed in the last month) which makes slushes and “milkshakes”

The frozen root beer sounds good

Just wanted to share a place I found this past week. Village Ice Cream has the best ice cream I have tried in Calgary. There is one location just north of the Saddledome along with a few others. It's made locally as well.

The maple pecan and the chocolate flavors are awesome.
It’s MIXED locally

According to one of their scoopers, They truck in their ice cream base from BC in a frozen State. They then defrost it here and mix in their white cream base with whatever Flavouring they want to put in

Made By Marcus is really good same with Amato Gelato, good stuff. McKay's is good too but it's double the price of anything else in the freezer section.

I hate that my grade school kids are learning to discriminate between Made by Marcus ice cream and grocery store ice cream.

They should be happy with the brick of freezer burnt Lucerne Neapolitan that we were only too happy to get when we were kids....(usually with one of the chocolate all eaten)

The locally produced Foothills ice cream is pretty good, but I haven't had it in a long time.

I loved the strawberry chunks they have in the strawberry flavor. The other ones I liked were mint chocolate chip and rolypoly.

The giant Foremost tubs actually aren't bad. Lots of overrun but still acceptable for $7.

There's a new place in Bowness called Abbey's Creations. It's expensive because of the mixins but damn the white chocolate ice cream was amazing.
