COVID 19 and the NHL: postponements, rescheduling, etc.
I haven't seen a thread dedicated to this yet. Thinking we could have a one stop shop for the topic.
So there have obviously been some pretty big impacts so far with Dallas, and Carolina...
I see now that the next two games between Vegas and San Jose are getting postponed. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for 'the abundance of caution', but why did they bother with the inclusion of a taxi squad for a season if one player at high risk (or a positive test) with Pietrangelo can lead to rescheduling 2 games? I know the coaching staff had been isolating as well but they already played a game with McCrimmon behind the bench.

The taxi squad is there so teams aren’t having to call players up and send down regularly thus creating travel risks
If there is any cases or exposure on teams the right thing to do is postpone

This season isn't going to end till August if they plan to play all the games.
They must have a back up plan (points %) of some sort?
Why not use taxi squad players and force teams to play without some players? Like the NFL did.

Ristolainen and Hall added to the list for Buffalo
14 guys from the Devils including a bunch of their best players.
Teams just played each other.
Not great.

Congrats to the Canadian Division for being the last division without games postponed due to COVID

That would have been a pretty easy bet

I was actually just wondering what the NHL'S plan is with regards for make up games. I wonder if they add a week at the end of the season to make up for missed games. I'm thinking that they are hoping every team has games to make up so that if they have to extend the season every team is involved vs some teams sitting out and losing momentum going into the playoffs.

It might also be the baseball strategy of waiting to see if the games actually matter or not. And if the jurisdiction has any fans at that point...

If they resort to a point %, I sure as hell hope the flames get all their games in against the Sens and Oilers.

Not that it is going to happen in Canada but in the US there is an abundance of vaccine.
The NHL and NBA and MLB could be classified as Essential as they provide a mental break from all the lock downs and lack of structure in so many people's lives.
It is so much better and healthier arguing about sports than politics and all the politician's have been vaccinated as essential persons.

i don't know... wasn't it a few years back that the flames were able to jump the queue and get flu shots (was it flu shots?) early and there was some stink about that?

On one of the broadcasts they mentioned that the NHL is able to push the playoffs 10 days if needed and still be able to finish the season when they wanted. Once teams start hitting 5 games postponed it will get harder to make things up.

This season isn’t going to be 56 games at this rate.

I still think the NHL should just cancel all the US games and hold a Canada exclusive Stanley Cup tournament.

This would be so awesome and yet would absolutely require an asterisk.
Also, that guy who said CP would have a melt down when we lose to Ottawa? Lol. If that’s a meltdown, then this would be CPocalypse because anyone but us winning the cup would explode the servers.

Avs-Wild played 3 times in 4 days. I suspect the list of Avs players to grow significantly over the next two days.

I’m starting to wonder how they are going to be able to make up all these games? I thought they were in a pretty tight schedule to begin with.
