To his/her credit, neither side of the spectrum has been balanced and I only expect it to get even uglier.

I put out my personal thoughts with a question and it took less than 5 minutes for the NDP fan club to toss around jokes about beating wives, virgins, remarks made 20 years ago by the UCP leader, etc.

Safe to say this could be the ugliest battle between 2 leaders we have ever seen (my lifetime anyway)?

Give me a break. Don't pretend like you are the one taking the high road here. You wrote a list of condescending questions. Check yourself.

This is going to be an ugly campaign. We're already seeing previews and its going to get worse.

All I can do is encourage everyone to get out and vote, decide who you like better based on platform, party and personal and let the chips fall where they may!

You've got to be chugging some pretty concentrated blue koolaid if you think Jason Kenney has changed.

and is it really smart for someone using their real name and their business contact to be talking about politics on here?

The double standards are obvious on this board, but logic and consistency have never been a strong suit of the left.

Sadly, the extremely personal and negative tone has already been set by the NDP attack ads, websites, etc. It's quite obvious they want to avoid any talk of their record if at all possible.

Even with the screw ups by Kenney, outside of any criminal findings I think the UCP are still in line for a large majority government.

Can we start a poll and see where the chips are going to fall here on CP?

We should do a weekly poll. Currently I have no idea who I am going to vote for, so I'd be undecided but that will change as we get closer.

Mods? Someone who can do this every week?

I tend to think that just like people think that voters in Ontario and Quebec will ignore the whole mess that is SNC Lavalin. That in this province the voters for the most part won't factor a huge amount into the current scandal threatening Kenney.

Kenney's job will be to remove focus from it by the NDP and their negative campaign, and focus on portraying Notley as hopelessly incompetent and naive when it comes to matters of the economy and paint a party that's done tremendous damage to Alberta.

Notley's job will be to keep this scandal alive and burning. Portray Kenney as the second coming of Hitler who's going to slaughter public sector workers with a smile on his face and a song in his heart.

Ipsos poll released today showed 53% in favor of the UCP compared to 35% for the NDP.

7% each for the fringe parties.

Notley
- Building 20 schools (so that those kids can pay off government debt when they are adults)
- Plan for health care with Kenney is privatize it... false
- She is building the Calgary Caner center.... wasn't that started by the PC's and was put on hold due to finances?
- She is upgrading deerfoot.... yes it can use an upgrade but far from a priority imo

Can anyone confirm that she is creating jobs? All I ever see in the media is job losses and record unemployment but based on this speech, jobs are falling from the sky.

Credit where it is due however, she speaks much better when answering questions than reading a pre written speech that I assume she didn't write.

The Ipsos poll that was released today and was conducted over the weekend.

Quote:
Overall, the majority — 53 per cent — of Albertans polled seemed ready to throw their support behind the UCP, with 35 per cent saying they’d vote for the NDP. The Liberal and Alberta parties came in with a total of seven per cent.

When it comes to voter certainty, the UCP is also ahead of the NDP, the poll shows. More than 60 per cent of the UCP supporters surveyed said they were “very certain” they’d vote for the UCP, whereas 47 per cent of the NDP voters said they were certain about their choice.

The issues that were top of mind for those polled were primarily economy related, with 30 per cent saying jobs and employment were major issues ahead of the election. Twenty-five per cent said pipeline construction was a concern as they consider their vote and 22 per cent said they were thinking of the general economy overall.

When it comes to who could best effectively deal with those issues, the UCP has a 16-point lead — particularly when it comes to government spending and taxes.

The poll also showed a small majority of those surveyed feel it’s time for a change of government in the province, with 52 per cent saying it’s time for a new party and only 31 per cent saying Notley should be re-elected. Seventeen per cent were undecided.

“I think you have to look at the issues that are important to people and if you look at the numbers — jobs, oil and gas, pipelines — these are all things that are important to people, to the extent that that’s going to drive their vote,” Jack said.

“These are not areas where they are feeling they are seeing what they want to see.”

Pretty close numbers to the 2015 election if you lump the Wildrose with the PC's.

This election is definitely UPC's to lose.

I'm just curious to see how much they can #### this up. Going to be an interesting month.

It might change a bit from the recent issues Kenney has had. I believe this poll was done before any of this Kamikaze campaign issue came into the media spotlight.

That probably doesn’t have the full affect of the PC Scandel in.

The problem is with a 20 point lead you really need to be running a sex offender to move the polls that much. This scandel might cost them all the seats in Edmonton and inner Calgary but it’s not touching the rest of Alberta or Suburban Calgary.

I don't think she said that she was building it. She said that when it's built, that it will be fully staffed and that you won't need a credit card to get in. Probably a reference to The UCP supposedly cutting healthcare and privatizing it.
