I don't mind the Ray signing as it has good upside, but get ready for some mega frustrating outings from him. It seems like he'll just be cruising racking up the Ks and then all of a sudden he's walked the bases loaded.

When I look at the free agent position players out there, Springer makes a lot of sense for the Jays, but I would throw everything at DJ Lemahieu, he would fit perfectly in the lineup and he can play 2nd and 3rd. I think what I like most about him, is that he is a no nonsense type of player and just goes out there and works, I think that would be great for the clubhouse.
As far as pitchers go, I would love to get Bauer, but I doubt it happens, so 3 guys I think would be good bounce back candidates are James Paxton, Corey Kluber, and Chris Archer. I think all 3 can be front of the rotation type starters, but health has been a question mark lately.

Kluber would be interesting even as just a good role model for the young pitchers in the clubhouse.
A two time Cy Young winner who has experience with our front office, and has been mentioned as a guy that helped out guys like Bauer, Clevlinger, and Bieber evolve in Cleveland.

Rosenthal reporting that the Jays offered Gausman a 3 year $40m deal before he signed with the Giants. He is also saying that the Jays are busy talking to Springer, Lemahieu, Brantley and Turner so far in free agency.
Lots of big name pitchers on the trade market. Reds are listening to offers for Sonny Gray who has 3 years left at a reasonable salary $10-12m. Rangers are willing to move Lance Lynn. The biggest one might be the Rays listening to offers for Blake Snell. The prices for Snell and Gray will be too high most likely, but both would fit great in the rotation.

Realmuto would be a great haul if they can get him. Catchers are so rare, I think getting him would be nice. Pitchers, next off-season please.

They would build it and continue playing at Rogers until it is done.
It is on land adjacent to the current facility.

Stephen Brunt who is pretty connected to these things thinks its more likely this happens than not.

That's very exciting news! Hopefully one of their priorities is installing actual real grass.

One the reasons why this is likely to go forward is the cost of putting grass into the existing Skydome. They went from full turf to grass, to grass infield, to dirt basepaths, and in every step the cost of ripping out the concrete and turf in order to add the necessary filtration system was astronomical.
Considering how hard it is on the body (knees especially) to play on turf, and the rising cost of running a baseball team, Rogers always knew that a change was a-coming. When the cost of revamping the Skydome starts to look like a real dent in the building of an entirely new facility, I'm guessing it became a pretty easy sell.
Man, Skydome has a massive concrete footprint though. I wonder how much of the raw material is reusable in some way.

Bad timing as well as it was just a horrible moment in architectural philosophy/aesthetics when they built the Skydome as well. It was a small period in time when these ugly concrete lifeless domes seemed like the best idea for a stadium, I guess it was born out of the idea of having a multipurpose facility which still seems like the most practical use of a large chunk of land. However I think it was only 3 years after the completion of the Skydome that Camden Yards set a new standard of what people wanted out of a baseball experience.
Obviously a lot of extremely fond memories for the Jays at the Skydome! The location is second to none, which ownership understands, but it’s a horrible building for any major event really.

I wonder what they have planned when it comes to the south side? The only thing I can think of is removing the brewery, but I don't think that land is large enough for a stadium. I'm sure it's in it's infancy anyway, but there's so much that will likely be changed leading up to it, such as breaking down the Gardiner, or other things, that it's going to be a real political point going forward. I could easily see this thing going on a 10 year battle similar to how the subway system has been politicised. I personally love the location and would love it in the area but I can't see it happen. I'd also love to see it near the water. Nothing like the breeze on a summer day. Great that they'll make it smaller as well. I hope they try something revolutionary. Regardless of what's chosen, I'm sure there will be an element of the roof that they'll design into the new stadium to make it Skydome 2.0, which would be neat.

And Sportsnet parting ways with Mike Wilner. The guy had a good knowledge of the game but possibly the most arrogant person working on their staff. Anytime anyone challenged him on his views in post game radio he'd either go off on them or disconnect. I didn't like him at all. It's one thing to be a hot head, but it's another thing to respond arrogantly and not allow a caller a rebuttal. I feel strongly about this one - good riddance.

There's no undeveloped land anywhere near Skydome that's nearly big enough to hold a major league park.
Everything I've read says they're looking at building the new stadium south of the current, but unless they're going to build over the Gardiner Expressway, there isn't enough room for a full stadium and I don't think they could do a partial demolition and keep playing at Skydome during construction like they did in Cincinnati because the south end of the stadium is where the infield and clubhouses are.
I can't see anyway they can build a new stadium there without the Jays needing to find somewhere else to play for at least a couple of seasons.
