Love to see Zary with some instant chemistry with Dach, helps his chances of making the team obviously.

After giving him a little heat, Zary really impressed in the second period.
Assists aside, he made some really nice plays and puck recoveries. Also had a beautiful tip that almost went in.
Dach and Tomasino have definitely been leading the way on that line this game, but Zary really held his own in the second rather than simply looking like the third wheel

Zary with 2 assists in the second period. Both secondary but the first one he was still a key to the play because he took the defenseman with him which opened up a scoring chance for Tomasino.
The other thing I am noticing about Zary is that he reads the play very well. 3 shifts in a row, he read the breakout and disrupted the rim by beating Red to where the puck was going. First one he took posession and theybgot some zone time, second one they had to rush the play and white took it in the neutral zone off a wonky pass, and the third one white had to turn the puck back and restart with red set up in their forecheck. It's really encouraging to watch him form chemistry with top players like Dach and Tomasino, but he's not a passenger.
Red was pretty badly outplayed in that period, so not as much to say about Pelletier. Hopefully he has a strong third.

Might have to completely take back what I said about Zary.
Had a phenomenal final two periods.
Pelletier was a lot less noticeable in the final 40.

I actually have that actual book, as I collect very old kids books.
The racist stereotyping in these old editions is historic, but standard for the times.

I could see Pelletier making the team as the 13/14th forward type for sure.
Can play up and down the lineup, and brings energy every shift.

Who has a better shot at making it? Zary or Pelletier?

Probably Zary since he showed a lot of chemistry on a line with Dach and Tomasino.
But Pelletier had a good camp from most accounts too and could really fit as a guy that can play on any line and bring skill and energy.

I think its the opposite, I'd give Pelletier the upper hand as he can fit anywhere up and down the lineup where as Zary a natural C is up against a ton of depth and 2 big NHL ready C's in Dach and Cozens dropping him down the depth chart.
Hope they both make it, but I think Pelletier is a lock where as Zary has to play his way on.

Did I miss something? Why no Alexis Lafreniere?

I expect that it is because he has already played in and dominated this tournament twice. Perhaps Lafreniere has no interest in returning?

according to this guy's tracking info, zary did pretty well last game at exiting the zone with control but worse at gaining the zone with control (this may be a systems thing, however, as tomasino also dumped the puck a lot). iirc a weakness of zary's game last year was his link-up transition play. interested to see how he does in that regard in the tournament if he makes the team.
pelletier's exit and entry stats weren't as strong as his overall play these games would suggest

Bold of them to assume the NHL will start in January when they don't even have their labor agreement in place.

Would have said Pelletier was likely and Zary was a total long shot but now I’m not so sure
It would be kind of bittersweet to see Zary light it up and take Pelletier’s spot. This is a really deep group for forwards center in particular

He did almost absolutely ruin his knee in the same tournament last year
