Still seems odd that he'd choose Edmonton where
- its Canada
- heavier COVID restrictions
- quality of life is likely not as enjoyable

Which makes me think that obviously
- They're paying him more
- He needs the money
- Less likely to leave the house, thus less likely to get in trouble

I look at it as his best option to inflate his value for next season. He's a me first type player so he wants to score all the points and maximize the possibility of signing long term in a state with minimal taxes.

Edmonton is very likely a short term stop gap with a high possibility of returns for him, stat wise. Worst case Ontario, it doesn't work out and the dressing room suffers? They obviously don't care at this point.

Of course it will. And that's the best part. Get ready for the sweatpants and dress shoe crowd to rationalize how this is a great thing.

Can he even travel to the u.s. and play then return to Canada without quarantining?

I suspect his hopes are that he signs in Edmonton, racks up points with McDavid, and cashes in as a UFA this summer.

Somehow there doesn’t seem to be a shortage of suitors for him. It’s probably not a bad move on his part.

No Jason, it’s $9.1 million, not number 91.

The Oilers have made a lot of desperate 'Hail Mary' moves in their time but this one might just take the cake.

Players name the rules there so he probably “James Neal’d” himself to the top line already and ensured that they promised he’d stay there. Edmonton management 101.

Just the Oilers doing Oiler stuff, complete embarrassment to the league and the game.

LOL.... I don't follow it and maybe it's a "he said she said" thing... so not judging him on that... I just thought he had domestic issues as well... I was trying to be funny but I get your point as well.

Can't see him wanting to go to Edmonton, he has already played for the Edmonton 2.0 Jets

This is equivalent to the time the flames got Bertuzzi, and people were pissed in Calgary
