It’s so damn simple. War room watches the games, and head ref gets buzzed down to.
CFL is close to having this right. It has done wonders for procedure/offside calls where the overhead views are more conclusive than an on field view.

The NBA was bad in the David Stern days, but i think Adam Silver has done an excellent job as the comissioner and in terms of reffing, for example, the L2M report. The current NBA reffing is much better than the NHL, in fact, imo, the NBA reffing has been the best it has ever been.

Enjoying the physicality of this series. At this point, it's more about players I like (Burns, O'Reilly, Pavelski) vs. players I hate. And I really hate Perron. Always was, always will be a little net-crashing rat with no balls. I would pay high dollar to repeatedly punch him in the face.
And let's not forget his time on the oilers.

You know it's bad when NFL radio this morning during a recap of last nights sports goes on about the controversial ending in St. Louis due to a "clear hand pass". It's just a really bad look for the league.

The problem is balancing the need to review egregious mistakes like that, and the fact that coaches will abuse the ever loving crap out of the rules.
IMO the solution is this: the coach has 10 seconds after the incident to indicate he wants to challenge. If that's an offside, then it's from the moment of the off side. Officials allow play to complete, then go back and review. No letting team staff watch numerous replays beforehand. If the challenge fails, delay of game penalty. That's about the best chance we have to bring video review back to where it was intended: overturn egregious calls only.

Maybe they should look at the hand pass rule in general.
Can you touch the puck with your hand? Yes or no. If yes, maybe you should be able to do anything but score a goal that way. To score a goal, it has to have come from the stick of the attacking team (still allowing for deflections off defending team).
Of course, we might not have beat Vancouver in 89.
Or perhaps it’s like soccer and you can’t touch the puck with your hand. That probably doesn’t work so well since soccer players have their head and chest to use. Doesn’t work so well in hockey.
Unfortunately that was a blatant missed call under the rules.

Really? I'm no NBA fan, but I casually follow it and pay closer attention when the Raps are on a run like that are now..between my Twitter feed and following the Raps/NBA thread on CP, it's constant remarks about how much of a joke NBA reffing is. I just assumed it must be horrible.
Between the NHL, NBA, and NFL, it seems all 3 leagues have gotten so fast that refs can't even keep up, resulting in poor refereeing across the board...then there's soccer, where reffing has always been shady as hell. Poor refereeing is a plague across pro sports apparently

I don't think you see NBA and NFL having so many blatant black and white calls missed like this. The ones they struggle with are much more subjective. Eg. pass interference isn't as easy to call as a hand pass, puck over the glass last night, for instance....

You can easily get the sense, with all the suspect reffing this entire year and playoffs, there will be a call that will decide the Stanley Cup that is a missed or wrong call. So disappointing to have this stuff happen. Get it right. Don't put the blinders on and pretend that four people didn't see anything.

I've always been along the belief that they should have a minute timer on the review and after the minute they make a decision, this will catch blatantly wrong calls and speed up the game.

And if they aren’t sure after a minute, the call on the ice stands. Make it 30 seconds for off side rulings - if they require multiple views and magnifications, it’s not worth changing the linesman’s original call.
