Is that really true in Calgary though? I see that advice posted all over for the states, but given germinated seedlings would only have less that a month to establish, can't see it really working.

I put 8cm of soil down along the side of my house two weeks ago. Mixed some seed in with the top 1cm and set it to be watered every day.

I have shoots 1cm high already. Doesn't take very long for them to get going if you give them enough water.

yup, I seeded mine around this time last year. It took a bit longer to get really going in the spring but it looks fine now.

Our younger dog loves to run and dart and is the main culprit of dragging dirt inside. Unless we're talking a very deep layer of mulch, she'd still find the dirt. And then I'd have a ton of mulch to deal with next year. Grass is the ultimate goal - the area just needs some work.
