Default CP freight train schedule?

My son is facinated with trains at the moment. I like to take him to edworthy park with the off chance we get to see a train. Is there a schedule available anywhere?

I've had somebody suggest tuning into the radio chatter to see where they are but I have no idea where to find something like that? Is there an App?

Any help would be great

Just to be clear, CP is not a freight train schedule, it is a fan-based community message board for all things Calgary Flames and more.

If you don't agree, let's find a location where we can have a fist fight over it.

Well I'm in edworthy park at the moment. You will be able to find me as I'm guy who already ripped my shirt off with anticipation of throwing down

No set schedule but look at this page and click community connect team and try contacting them. I'm sure if you tell them you would like to show your son the train going by they can help you out.

And then let the rest of us know so we can try and avoid it.

In my experience if you ever want to see a CP train in the city just start driving home from work and you will invariably run into one.

Just head out to Canmore or any small town with a crossing. The train will arrive about 30 seconds before you want to cross the tracks. Works best if you are in a rush to get somewhere.

Exact schedules might be tough, but that track is mainline, and should have several trains a day.

I'll drive down from Edmonton shortly, and you'll have the pleasure of kicking an Edmontonian's ass. I'll even bring you a CPR train schedule.

You have a better chance of seeing one at the Airdrie train station, they literally come by every 5 minutes. unless i just get lucky every time i go.

If your son likes freight trains you need to take him to the spiral tunnels you can see the train go in and out of the tunnel and pass in front of you all at the same time.

Just past Lake Louise in Yoho.

For the most part, freight trains just kind of run when they run. Some of CP's priority trains are "scheduled" but they aren't precise enough that you'd be guaranteed to see the train go by at an exact time on any given day. The tracks that run through Edworthy Park are the transcontinental main line though, so stick around for a few hours and you'll likely see something.

if you do have a radio scanner, references like this might help:
http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?aid=8447

Listening to radio chatter might seem kind of cryptic unless you understand what you are listening for, but at least it might give you an idea of which trains are where and when.

Just a little extra note that I'm sure you've already got covered, but please stress with your son that although trains might seem pretty cool they are also really big and unforgiving, and railway tracks are not an awesome place for kids to hang out. Please teach him to observe from a safe distance and always stay very aware of his surroundings anytime he is around the tracks.

Good luck with the trainspotting.

One of my daughter's favourite memories was when we were eating ice cream at Mackay's Ice Cream in Cochrane and a train went by.

No clue on the schedule, but it was pretty awesome for her. The conductor even sounded the whistle for her.
