Default No more Alberta Beef at Earl's

So what restaurants serve Alberta or Canadian beef? I'd like to support the locals whenever I can.

Important to note it is because they will now only serve Certified Humane Beef.

It isn't like this was done to source cheaper crappier beef.

What exactly does 'Certified Humane' mean? How does it differ from standard meat production?

I suspect that this label has more to do with some sort of bureaucratic qualification than it does with beef produced under actual humane conditions.

There is "Certified Humane" beef in Alberta, the farm just can't provide enough product.

That is correct. It says as much in the article.

I don't see the problem. It's not as though the Alberta beef industry is hurting these days. Maybe it will mean cheaper beef for the rest of us.

I thought Alberta ranching was as humane as making meat gets? Does "certified humane" means the steer sleeps in the house with the farmer and gets last rights from a priest?

meaning beef raised without the use of antibiotics, steroids or added hormones, and slaughtered according to the specifications of animal welfare expert Dr. Temple Grandin.

Whether this is something that is actually more human can be debated, as peter12 said it very well could be not that humane at all.

Fact of the matter is that this type of food is obviously important to a lot of consumers and no canadian beef supplier can meet earls demand, yet. They were quite open and honest that they valued this certification more than serving Canadian beef.

Not like Earls could ever cook a steak properly anyway.

Yeah, have never in my life thought "I should go get a steak at Earl's".

If they switched for quality reasons, I'd be fine with it, but switching just for hippie reasons bugs me.

It will be interesting to see what this does to their quality. They were already paying extra so they could get first 'dibs' on the best quality of steak cuts, so lets see if these certified humane cuts are anywhere near as good. I prefer US steaks over Alberta steaks so this could still work out to be an improvement

Sounds like Earls wants documentation of some sort, probably on how the cattle is treated.

Sounds like this might on the farms if they can't meet this designation that Earls seems to want now.

Edit: Wow did everyone reply at the same time?
