Right
I guess we will never know for certain if Bennett was going to do something stupid and get suspended, but yeah. It was the most likely outcome

He is wrong. Bennett doesn't go head hunting every game. He just make derp plays and take derp penalties costing his team.
I would totally love to see McBennett take a run at Johnny though.
High IQ vs Low IQ battle! Some sidestep ankle breaking.

This is why I think Bennett was done in Calgary as soon as Sutter came back. Sutter hates players that:
A. Can't keep their emotions in check; and
B. Complain about their ice time.
The stereotype that Sutter prefers larger more physical players is incorrect. We're talking about the guy who traded for Phaneuf for a package based around Matt Stajan. Sutter like lunchbox guys who play hard. He has no time for hot heads.
Bennett is different than Phaneuf, in that I think Bennett actually means well most of the time, whereas Phaneuf would definitely have moments where his own ego would get the better of him. Phaneuf had more of a selfish streak to him. Bennett's hockey IQ is just so low that sometimes it's hard to tell if he's being selfish or not. Zero ability to see larger strategy or set up on ice plays.

Again, after Bennett was traded, Sutter told him “I wish I had you longer”
Bennett was traded because we were going to lose him in the expansion draft

I don’t think we really miss him. The flames are a tight team. He was such a penalty machine I’m not sure he would have helped much.
Maybe subbing him in for Pitlick. But I think the penalties over ride that.

I think we can all agree the trajectory of most of this team, including Sam Bennett, would have been very different if Sutter was the coach earlier.

I didn't mean he was a guaranteed suspension...just that he has trouble controlling his emotions. Hundred percent he would be running around tonight.
He has played what 40 games for the Panthers and has been suspended twice, injured multiple times. He is a reckless player which is good and bad at times.

Means nothing. There was all sorts of talk to increase Bennett's trade value. Apparently Bennett changed his mind about wanting a trade at all:

https://info.hockeyfeed.com/nhl-news...er?ref=sidebar
What's Sutter supposed to do...then turn around and say "gotcha" I hated him after all. Bennett and the team weren't working out, and the team would have likely to expose him. Both sides made a bunch of cordial comments to each other after Sutter was put on board. That's all I see there.

I was looking forward to seeing if Bennett had any issue with a former teammate.

Bennett is an emotion driven player, but you’ve got me on how it was going to manifest itself: driven, out of control, or kind of paralyzing. I think all three could have easily happened.
As for Sutter’s comments, I think he was being polite to Bennett on his way out and it doesn’t say much one way or another.

Honestly, if you are going to agave those lines, just swap pitlick and Monahan. I'm sure money can pick up how to play the wing.

I think he should get a shot at wing too. But I imagine they’d like to do it after some time at home with some practices at the position.
