The road is always better coming from highway 40, Canmore to Engadine lodge gets so much more traffic as well. If Volker Stevin still takes care of the roads in Alberta they might have something listed on their web page or just call them about the condition. I find if it’s bad usually only from where the gravel road starts past the trail head for Grassi lakes up to Spray lakes campground.
I think it would be a good hike that fits your needs as it is basically just walking on a flat path wide enough for trucks.
