So Africka Bambata is on tour and playing a little club in Bellingham next month ($15) I shall head down clutching my old 12" copy of Planet Rock to get it autographed.

From the best hip hop album of 2009:

Another great track from 2009 (since I'm on the subject):

A classic (that never seems to get played out):

Man, I could spam this thread for weeks. From two of the giants:

We've neglected an important and awesome part of hip hop for the most part so far.

This was better as a discussion thread, instead of a "I will one up you with my mad youtube skills and huge cred" thread.

Love the Yay area vids

My buddy introduced me to Bay Area around 98 and that's what got me hooked on rap music.

My favorite was anything from YBBR. All those albums were awesome.

Dubee aka Sugawolf
Mac Mall- Illegal Business
Mac Dre- young black Brotha
Ray Luv- Forever Hustlin
Young Lay- Black and Dangerous.

Haven't seen it mentioned yet but one of the all time best hip hop bands was a little known group called The Goats. They were from Philadelphia and put out two records:

- Tricks of the Shade
- No Goats, No Glory

Saw them live in London in Camden Town years ago and they were unreal. They also toured with Bad Brains and on their second record, actually did some tracks with the Bad Brains. If you can find any of their stuff, it is well worth your time. One of the band members disappeared due to a drug problem and I think that contributed to the demise of the group.
