I know the world is different now than it was in the 80s and 90s, but look at a lot of the Flames from the late 80s and 90s. Quite a few of them have remained in Calgary. Otto, Macoun, Patterson, Fleury and Peplinski to name a few from just the championship team.

Berezan, Corbet, and now Commodore also. I've heard Brad Ference and Titov too but can't confirm.

Gelinas too, but of course, his job dictates it (though he probably could have gotten jobs elsewhere).

I'd almost guarantee Stone will stay here after he's done.

I'm pretty sure Titov's daughters live in Calgary, so i wouldn't be surprised if he did as well.

I think Craig Conroy is still living in Calgary. And he's *gasp* an AMERICAN!

One of my old partners lived next door to him. If he couldn't drive Connie away, nothing could.

Isn't that what the green skittles are for?

I believe his wife is from Calgary or at least her family lives here now, so that's a slightly different situation than someone who had no other ties to the city than the Flames.

A few weeks ago, Brouwer hit a hole-in-one at one of the area golf courses. From what I recall, the fact that his family was building a home here was one of the factors in why he chose to sign with the Flames in the first place.

That reminds me of a story I read (probably posted here a long time ago) after the whole Pronger situation went down in Edmonton. One of the local reporters reached out to Conroy's wife to talk about the difficulties of raising a family while your husband's a pro hockey player. During the interview, she told a story about one of her daughters being given an assignment to write about "if I could live anywhere in the world, where would it be" while they were living in LA. Most of the other kids in the class wrote about other big cities in the States or places like Paris or Hawaii. Their daughter wrote about living in Calgary.

A large amount of former NHL'ers, not just ex-Flames settle in the Calgary area post career. The team and alumni association is one of the best in the league and treats them well. The corporate world has also been super friendly to these guys.

Current players like Seabrook, Brouwer and Eberle too.

Titov's here, though not sure how much now. If you see a man who looks like he just stepped out of a Russian Disco from the 90s, it's Titov.

I've heard of Eberle and Brouwer living here, but never Seabrook. Interesting

The real key will be the dressing room in the new building for Johnny.. It has to be the right size, not too big or too small. It has to be just right.

Brad is proudly serving our city with the CFD, he's in the water rescue unit.

That was kinda my point and related to the original discussion (making ties in the community and settling as opposed to being from here). He married a girl he met as a Hitman. He actually was looking at buying the house of one of my friends the first time he moved here.

Let’s face it, people are individuals even hockey players. The reasons why one player might choose to stay/leave can be completely different than another player. Some players are single and will have totally different priorities than married players who have a family. Players coming from different cities and countries will have very different ideas about what makes an ideal city.

I’d go so far as to say that everybody’s priorities are so different and varying that trying to generalize about where players might want to play is pointless and useless. As shocked as some fans might be, Calgary may be one of the most ideal places to play for somebody. And of course it is also be a city on many players NTC/NMC. People are different, priorities are different, perceptions of cities/countries are different. Someone’s priorities may shift drastically from their early 20’s to later in their career

But we can all agree on Winnipeg and Edmonton.
