Had an idea!
|
I know from experience that the business climate(minus taxation) that the NDP government has created in Manitoba leads to businesses having a much harder time increasing growth. Red tape and such.
Just wondering if the same could be said for Alberta, minus the issues of taxes.

They generally go hand in hand, but there's a lot of assumptions inherent in that.
For low taxes, it's more of a relative thing. But not just that, it's also a mobility issue.
For instance, it is easy to travel from province to province (or state to state), thus relative tax rates are key. It is harder to move to another country, so the relative differences are more elastic.
Regardless, it is also an absolute issue: The higher the tax rate, the more of a drag that creates for hiring labour.
Incentivism is generally good.

My company (producer) stock hit a record low a month ago in Feb. but has since doubled in price! There's still some promising stuff going on!

Smells like Trican! Hopefully you bought up some shares before they sold off US Assets. That would have been great to be apart of!

Yikes considering Iraq's state now, I'm scared to see what a "collapse" would look like.
... also ditto for Venezuela

Ok, what the hell caused Pengrowth stock to jump 13% today?
Wonder how much of that gain I'll be giving back tomorrow...?

A huge jump could mean that they are getting acquired?

I noticed it today too. Looks like Seymour Schulich has acquired about 15% of the company through share purchases on the open market. So I guess if Seymour Schulich is a smart guy.... March 3 was a perfect set up for me other than it was below a dollar so it wouldn't have shown up in my world. Maybe that's the day he really started buying shares.

Pengrowth took a huge jump yesterday - about 13% when every other oil stock I track was in the 2% range. It gave back every single cent today.

Pengrowth announced a sale-lease back transaction with Frog Lake Energy today:
http://boereport.com/2016/04/01/peng...-at-lindbergh/
I tend to view sale and leasebacks in a generally negative light.
It brings in $ for Pengrowth, but at the cost of ownership of an important piece of their SAGD facility. Not to mention the ownership of the co-gen moves to a FN. Slippery slope indeed.

Its okay, all it does is prove that I'm flexible!
We prefer the term: 'Morally Ambiguous.'
