Death Magnetic was a joke, it was still weak as hell compared to their earlier stuff. You can't go back and find that sound once you have become so mainstream hard rock. Same with Korn, they released Remember Who You Are stating they were going back to their roots too and it was a big fail.
You know when DM came out I was really digging it, finally some Metallica that wasn't terrible. The more I listen to it though it really isn't that good. They preached "we're going back to long songs" (like ...and Justice for All), but really that isn't what made the music good. A proper thrash song shouldn't be 7-9 minutes long. All Nightmare Long is a pretty bad ass song, the one riff in That Was Just Your Lift is pretty good, My Apocalypse is pretty good.
Hard to write an album as good as your earlier stuff when you have been writing crap for two decades. I don't totally blame them for selling out though, Megadeth had some pretty rough albums for a time and their newest, 13, isn't that good. Endgame is really good though.

my problem with DM is the snare drum. so....much....snare. the production is pretty terrible too, their albums from the 80's sound better than DM
My friends who toured with Metallica said they were the nicest headliner they ever opened for. Every other band wouldn't even talk to them, where Metallica let them travel with them on their private jet. I am not a Metallica fan, but arguing about music taste is pretty stupid. I love when people bring up technical skill. Who gives a damn? If you like a band's music who gives a crap if it's hard to play? Writing good music is much harder than being a technical master at something. I'd rather listen to Municipal Waste or pretty much anyone than Steve Vai/Eric Johnson/Malmsteen/whatever guitar god.

sounds pretty awesome, hard to believe these guys are in the same generation as Metallica and Megadeth. their sound hasn't softened up one bit, it's only gotten heavier

According to the Czech news web site Novinky, LAMB OF GOD singer Randy Blythe was arrested earlier today
Quote:
According to the Czech news web site Novinky, LAMB OF GOD singer Randy Blythe was arrested earlier today (Thursday, June 28) in the Czech Republic and charged with manslaughter over an incident that happened more than two years ago.
Blythe reportedly got into an altercation with a fan during the band's show at the Prague club Abaton in May 2010 and the fan later died of his injuries.
When LAMB OF GOD arrived on Thursday to play a show at the Rock Café in Prague with SKELETONWITCH and ALL SHALL PERISH, the local police brought the musician in for questioning. LAMB OF GOD's appearance at the venue was canceled later in the day.
A spokesperson for LAMB OF GOD says that Blythe is "wrongly accused," that the band's "lawyers are dealing with it," and that "we expect him to be fully exonerated." http://www.blabbermouth.net/news.asp...sitemID=176074
Holy crap, manslaughter? Guess this probably means LOG won't be coming to town in August since Randy obviously has much much bigger issues to deal with.

Dave Mustaine pipes in about the recent gun violence in the US:
Quote:
Nope, nothing to see here… just Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine, a noted birther, adopting a freshly concocted conspiracy claiming President Barack Obama was somehow responsible for recent mass shootings in Colorado and Wisconsin.
"Back in my country, my president is trying to pass a gun ban," Mustaine said at a concert in Singapore last week. "So he's staging all of these murders, like the Fast and Furious thing down at the border and Aurora, Colorado, all the people that were killed there. And now the beautiful people at the Sikh temple."
The accusation, that Obama staged the massacres in order to justify a gun ban, drew a seemingly confused reaction from audience members, as heard in video footage of the episode.
I guess that basically means Mustaine is probably a 9/11 truther and believes the birth certificate isn't real. Musicians should rock, and stick to it. There are only a few really well spoken and well informed musicians out there.
