Default How’s Honzek doing these days?

I know he was injured forever but is anybody following him? How is he playing? Do we know his stats line? Is he making strides? Thanks!

Some colour in there. Counting stats aren't amazing and re regressing a bit.

He has regressed down to a point per game, and his pace seems to be slowing.
Most of the other CPers who follow CHL prospects don't seem to be as concerned as I am. His history of multiple major injuries adds to the concern. It appears to be affecting his play.

Fellow Flames prospect Lipinksi has a similar stat line and was draft much later. He's actually looking like a pretty good pick.

Injury problems, but still better than Baertschi & Phillips.

Baertschi was exactly 2 points per game in his D+1 year. Honzek is 1 point per game. I maintain that Beartschi was a good pick, but things went south during development.

Phillips was a 6th round pick. I believe he was also an over-ager.

He’s also the only player on his team that’s PPG or above. I don’t watch any of his games but this tells me he doesn’t have as much talent around him as he could

I mentioned this on the prospect forum, but IMO most concerning element is that he was supposed to be playing and developing at Centre this year, but has not played at Centre in quite some time now.

I don't think it's a write off scenario- he's only d+1 and had a major injury. But I think his lack of increased production is concerning and the fact that he's back to the wing is worrisome for his potential ramp to becoming a centre.

Looking at some of the comparable guys in that range, Wood and Moore are having similar seasons, albeit in perhaps a tougher league for scoring. Both are right around PPG. Sandin-Pelikka is looking like an awesome pick, though many on here weren't interested in a dman I think that Sandman was focused on this player if memory serves. Good eye, apparently!
I liked Perrault. He's having an excellent freshman college season. However, he went to another stacked college team, so hard to read how much production he deserves credit for. And it's possible he scared some teams away by talking about where he wanted to play.

In short, though Honzek isn't producing eye popping numbers, few of his contemporaries around the pick (or ostensibly on our radar) are. Most concerning IMO is the shift back away from centre ice and what that means for his future prospects in the NHL.

Didn't like the pick at the time, like it even less now. Tops out as a 3rd liner IMO.

At least we didn't pick Sale as rumored. Yikes.

I was hoping for a top six guy when they drafted him. I think he can still get there.

Perreault and Musty are looking like great prospects right now. Those were the 2 I was hoping for at the time. Still hopeful for Honzek though!

I really wanted Axel Sandin Pellikka. He’s been stellar for his team and is looking like a top pairing defender.

Frustrating that he was the very next pick.

He has had some injury and development set backs, and likely needs more time. It seems unfair to compare him directly to other players who have not had injuries and missed time.

Those two and Andrew Cristall were the ones I was pulling for. They are younger and have higher draft year NHLes.

We need to practice patience with Honzek.

I'm sure many viewed Zary as a disappointing pick shortly after being drafted and now look at him.

Not every prospects development is linear, to early to worry imo.

That Zary kid seems to be doing pretty well.

Honzek had a bad blow to start his D+1 season, but I'm not seeing a big issue with recent 1st rounders.

For clarity, although I was hoping for other players to be picked, I’m happy with the Honzek pick.
