He's 18. Give him a couple of years and he'll win these. It's not the end of the world if he loses here. Still a very impressive tournament and a good step forward. Look at his ranking from the beginning of the year to now.
Servebots have been a problem for years. Decades even. Unless the ATP changes the rules somehow, they always will be.

Mine is valid, Nishikori might never be as good as he can, but at least he's entertaining. The only reason this match won't be two tiebreakers is because Felix is gonna lose the drive as he realizes his best chance is gone. There's basically no point to watching Isner matches, just the TBs.

The thing is, Isner 2.0 is coming in 6'11" Reilly Opelka.

Yeah we've got our solution, ban players above a certain height since we know what anyone over 6'6" is gonna be about, and it's not great movement on the ground.

Yeah pretty sure this would be illegal. Either way they're not going to do it. There must be a solution, though.

Felix will probably go for broke on the return game now, so the next few games should be entertaining at least. A break in the next game would change this match in a hurry. At this point there's no use playing out the set only to give the advantage to Isner in the tie break.

Ban second serves for players who play a predermined amount of sets in tiebreakers (50% maybe)? Anything so that guys who you literally just have to have rallies with and they cannot win matches is simply good for the sport and sends a good message to young players to diversify their games.

How much would tennis change if you were only given one serve? I don't see it ever happening, but it would definitely be a huge impact.

Watching this more and more, I would keep Isner in the middle of the court as much as possible on the return if I was Felix. His only effective ground strokes are based only on angle...take that opportunity away and make him beat you straight up.

Also never going to happen. The solution isn't contingent on anything. It's not some players get X rules and some get Y rules. That just will never fly (and shouldn't in any sport).
You could do something with rackets but it would probably just end up playing into the hands of the anti-tennis guys.

Would that help reduce servebots though? Isner still gets a good number of first serves in. I guess if every serve was treated like a second serve though, it might work.

Felix is barely hanging on right now, but you feel if he can somehow get a break it'll rejuvenate him.

His serve has gotten worse and Isner's has gotten better and appears more or less invincible. I don't know if that's Felix's return game falling off or Isner figuring out where he can put them that will cause Felix the most difficulty.

No choking this time please, just close it out. Go Kyrgios and serve underhand second serves if you gotta, just no gifts.

Just don't let Isner get a free game here. Put a few in play and see how it goes.
