A couple things that this trade likely proved.
Either Hamilton's trade value on this board was overrated, or Hanifin's was underrated. Likely a combo of both.
Fox's trade value was no where close a 1st round pick as many speculated.
I really like Hanifin, he'll eventually be better than Hamilton. And his contract will be longer and cheaper than Hamilton's current one.

I like the players coming in, and I'm alright with Hamilton and Ferland going the other way, I just don't get why Fox was included. It makes no sense to me.
Hamilton > Hanifin
Ferland < Lindholm
Fox should be a chip for another deal if he wasn't going to sign.
|
But Hanifin much closer to Hamilton (and may be better in short period of time) than Ferland to Lindholm. Selling super high on Ferland imo.
(not that I'm happy about losing Fox, but have to give to receive I guess))

He will have to be more productive than he showed in Carolina. I still have optimism for next season but I was hoping Hamilton and Fox could fetch more than this.

ferland has only hit the once.. lindholm is 3 years younger and has double the nhl points as ferland. last hear he had 16.. don't pretend to say never come that close.. 4 goals off
Ferland is a 3rd liner that played on the first line due to the depth issues of the flames on the rw.
Lindholm has been the better more consistent player in the NHL and is younger than ferland.

Flames traded for D.Hamilton after his age 21 season - he had 83 career points.

Wonder what the deal with Dougie is
Twice now he has been moved for perceived lower value with buzz about not being a fit
It’s just weird

per Shannon, Lindholm was only asking for 700k per year more than what Carolina was offering.

I get trading Fox if he wasn't going to sign but effectively getting no value back for him is inexcusable and is hard to swallow. Tre’s dad is likely deeply disappointed in his son’s inability to recognize and deliver value.

The only way Calgary wins this is if Lindholm puts up 60+ points and Hanifin becomes a Norris candidate in the next 3 years.
Way too mich risk for the potential reward
And on top of that, you throw away the biggest physical presence on the team and a future top 4 dman

Think a lot of people are forgetting that we had a team that basically rolled over last year. It was made clear publicly that there were certain players that were guys who weren’t playing to win. Too me it seems like Hamilton was one of those guys, potentially Ferland too. We can all have our rose colored glasses on looking at these guys but none of us know what’s going on behind closed doors.
If Fox wasn’t going to sign and Hamilton and Ferland were guys who were not in it to win then how is this not a win?

At least BT through in Fox to make it a likely win for Carolina. Really like it when it was Hamilton only, Ferland is I guess fine but Fox probably makes it a win for Carolina.w

Holy crap. I'd be fine if Ferland wasn't a part of it. But with him going I'm not as warm. More lukewarm. A wait and see stance I guess. We're losing 20 goals right there and the net gain with lindholm is maybe 10 points so..
Just wow.

Not bad although I will really miss Ferland. I don't want to see him go.
It looks like the Flames will be a really talented squad but quite soft. I would like to see a tougher guy replace Ferland.

Ferland is actually the better goal scorer. Lindholm is more well rounder player.

Lindholm also never played with Gaudreau

I don't agree at all, put Lindholm with Gaudreau and Monahan he gets 20+

At first glance this feels like a massive overpayment on the Flames part but oh whale. Hopefully these two pan out because trading a top pairing defenceman for a couple potential guys doesn’t feel good right now.

It isn’t a loophole. Prospects drafted out of any league can become UFAs or re-enter the draft if not signed within 2-4 years
