Personally, I couldn't get into it. The subject matter isn't interesting to me.

Ah so we’re sticking with “he’s still guilty though”. Cool.

From TMZ (this is the prosecutes office):

Quote:
"After reviewing all of the facts and circumstances of the case, including Mr. Smollett's volunteer service in the community and agreement to forfeit his bond to the City of Chicago, we believe this outcome is a just disposition and appropriate resolution to this case."
If I'm reading this right, that does not mean he didn't orchestrate the hoax, it means that the prosecutes office thinks that the forfeit of his bond and previous community service is punishment enough.

considering none of us have a clue what actually happened, how can you say he's guilty and got away with it?

he might be guilty, but I'm assuming the State's Attorney's Office found good reason not to proceed on any of the charges.

Yes, they seem to be dropping based on expected resources and cost to prosecute vs expected penalty if convicted. Doesn't matter though- everyone that jumped off the bandwagon when he was charged can jump back on!!

I'm hanging off the back of the wagon with one foot dragging on the ground. I'm not sure where I should be right now.

It seems odd that prosecutors can decide whether or not they prosecute someone based on a variety of factors, regardless of guilt or innocence. Not to mention that this casts the Chicago PD in a bad light to their critics with people already calling them racist on Twitter en mass, saying the charges being dropped is proof of their corruptness. All this even though the evidence they've collected seems pretty solid and it's still all up to the prosecutor? I mean, are the brothers still suspects?? This whole case is so bizarre.

Any time a prosecutor offers a deal they consider a variety of factors, regardless of guilt. Nothing new really. If it's much cheaper to avoid trial and/or the case is unlikely to be successfully prosecuted, getting the bond and some community service might be as good as they'll be able to do.

There's no doubt he pulled this stunt, good for him I guess that he's not getting charged but I wish he spent some time in jail for this garbage. He was perfectly willing for someone else to go to jail to feed into his story.

I think it is pretty obvious he is 100% guilty.

If people think Chicago PD made all this evidence up, including the check to the brothers and security footage they have a racism tin foil hat on firmly.

The hearing lasted all of five minutes, and the judge immediately ordered the case file sealed. Looks like the corrupt, racist Chicago PD bit off more than it could chew this time.

Case in point on why they should have pursued a conviction, even if the punishment wouldn’t have been severe.

That said, it became clear that Smollett was going to invest all he could into his defense (career was on the line, so why not), which even further tipped the scales on whether it was worth it for the prosecutor. The only thing worse than dropping the case would be a not guilty verdict.

And the police probably weren't looking forward to having their investigation picked apart and errors highlighted for something that had little gain.
