The Carolina Panthers, Carolina Hurricanes, and Golden State Warriors (two of which he actually mentioned in his critique) all disagree with this guy's premise.

Golden State might only be Golden State until 2019. When they move to the new arena in San Francisco there is a decent chance they'll go back to being the San Francisco Warriors.

What I learned from that article: Las Vegas is a 'goddamn city'

If we're nitpicking, he does realize that the team is not even located in Las Vegas at all, right?
Las Vegas, the actual city, is not where the casinos are. The arena is located in Paradise, Nevada.
The Paradise Golden Knights it is.

Also... The LA Galaxy and DC United use shortened nicknames for their cities in their official names. The New England Patriots use their region. Tampa Bay is a body of water, not a city. The Angels have two cities in their official name.
If you throw in the minor leagues, last year's AHL Champions were the Lake Erie Monsters (they changed their name to Cleveland this season). The Flames have had AHL affiliates in both Quad Cities and Adirondack, both of which are regional descriptions, not city names.
In junior hockey, you have Kootenay and Tri-Cities in the WHL and the Soo Greyhounds in the OHL.

Shouldn't the team Technically be called the Paradise Golden Knights?

Just like the Manhattan Rangers, the Brooklyn Islanders, the Newark Devils, the Raleigh Hurricanes, the Glendale Coyotes, the Sunrise Panthers, the Tampa Lightning, the Saint Paul Wild, and the Denver Avalanche. The NHL has a long history of naming teams after the city, and only the city, that the arena the club plays in is located.

Rangers and Islanders are both in NYC, NY. You have mentioned two boroughs inside NYC.
