EDMONTON (64 GP, 76 P, 30 ROW)
+ F David Desharnais, F Justin Fontaine
- D Brandon Davidson, F Taylor Beck

ANAHEIM (63 GP, 74 P, 30 ROW)
+ F Patrick Eaves, F Sam Carrick, F Spencer Abbott
- D Kenton Helgesen

CALGARY (64 GP, 72 P, 31 ROW)
+ F Curtis Lazar, D Michael Stone, D Matt Bartkowski, D Michael Kostka
- D Jyrki Jokipakka

ST LOUIS (62 GP, 67 P, 30 ROW)
+ F Zach Sanford, F Brad Malone
- D Kevin Shattenkirk, G Pheonix Copley

LOS ANGELES (63 GP, 66 P, 29 ROW)
+ F Jarome Iginla, G Ben Bishop
- F Dwight King, G Peter Budaj, D Erik Cernak, D Tom Gilbert

---------------------------

Anaheim added Eaves, but other than that I don't see how any of the Flames' rivals for a playoff spot got significantly better at the deadline. The Oilers didn't get a backup goalie and the Desharnais/Davidson flip doesn't improve them a lot. The Blues got significantly worse, the Kings brought in two big names, but IMO that won't get them into the playoffs.

Added Anaheim to the mix. Flames still control their own destiny and currently have the ROW advantage.

If the Flames finish 11-7 then the Kings would need to do better than 12-5-1 to pass the Flames. St. Louis with the extra games will need to do better than 13-7.

Well, 66 games are complete with 16 to go. The Flames have a decent 8 point cushion.

This is very positive for the Flames, they''ve tied the Ducks and are poised to mow down the Oilers. The Sharks are getting bitten by other teams, the Flames can do this! Go Flames.

The Flames are showing what they're capable of when everyone's playing well.

Elliot - Top 3 stats last year. He's been exactly like that recently.

Giordano, Brodie, and Hamilton - Dare I say the Flames have 3 D who are in the NHL's top 10 when they're all on their game? We certainly know Giordano is. In another thread someone mentioned that Dougie is top 6 for NHL D points for the past 365 days. Brodie is dominating every game since Stone was acquired and he's playing like last year, when many thought he was better than Gio! Add Stone and Engelland's toughness / shut down role, plus Bartkowski's skating ability and you have a solid top 6.

Frolik - Backlund - Tkachuk is a top 3 line in the NHL in advanced stats.
Gaudreau - Monahan - Ferland is dominating like they were two years ago with Hudler. At that time it was one of the hottest lines (if not the hottest) in the NHL.
Versteeg - Bennett - Brouwer. All of these players, when playing their best, are arguable solid 2nd liners. They bring a mix of speed, skill, and strength to the 3rd line and have no troubles finishing.
Bouma - Stajan - Chiasson. They skate hard, can hit, and do not give other lines an easy time.

This team can make noise in the playoffs.

What a great weekend for the Flames. Aves mathematically can not catch us and the Flames have a commanding lead on the 10th 7-game segment. I think the Flames have worked their way into the 2nd tier of playoff teams and are now focusing on a Pacific seed rather than a wild card. A 9-7 record will get the Flames to 94 points.

They also have the ROW advantage on every team currently in the race so it forces the teams to finish ahead of Calgary, which doesn't suck.

When you think of the records the teams below the line need to achieve to catch the Flames it tells you how close playoffs are. LA can really only afford 5 loses, WPG 3, Van 2, and DAL 1.

Considering these teams play each other down the stretch, they will be taking points from each other. I think it is almost time for that stretch drive pick'em spreadsheet.

Flames certainly have found the right mix and the team looks very deep right now and all it took was a few tweaks and some players finding their form

Defense
The top pairing or Gio-Hamilton has been fantastic since they were paired together and is a legit top pairing.
Since acquiring Stone the second pairing has become stabilized and Brodie has really elevated his game. The Flames have a solid #2 in the 3 spot and a solid #5 in the 4 spot which balances out to a great pairing
Engellend has been a great bottom pairing guy all year but finally has a decent partner in Bartkowski.

Forwards
The top line (which hasn't been our top line all year) has a boost with Ferland. All of a sudden Ferly is sniping goals with an elite release and the Flames have found a player that works with Monahan and Gaudreau. Ferland really elevated his play in the postseason on 2015 hopefully he can do the same this year. Monahan will need to go ppg to get close to his averages over the past 2 years where Gaudreau is sure to finish below expectations. However both are playing better as of late
The real top line, the 3M line has been great wire to wire. This will be such a massive line in the playoffs taking all the hard matchups.
The third line of Bennett and the 2 veteran ex-Hawks is coming together at the right time. Bennett looks to be on the verge of breaking out which would give the team incredible depth
I am hopeful that sooner than later Lazar takes Chiasson's spot on the 4th line. Decent energy unit that could be a bit more physical. I miss Hathaway but with the Lazar acquisition I don't think he comes back this year unless we get injuries.

Goaltending
Elliott has finally become the guy we hoped for when we traded for him. Playing like a true number 1
Johnson is a great backup and has played well when called upon recently. This guy saves our season with a hot run in November

Coaching
I was a harsh critic of Gulutzan but after about 50 games he finally has the team playing the way he envisioned. They are now an entertaining team that scores, defends, and posses the puck. Definitely moving in the right direction.

I feel very confident for the playoffs and hoping it is a long run

12 more points likely gets them in the playoffs. 15 points almost a lock.

So with that last win the Flames have won the 10th 7-game segment and still have 3 games to add bonus points for the segment! All the points belong to us!
