Hasn't this been statistically proven to be false. Rarely do large deadline acquisitions work out. The Blues won last year after doing f-all. You either have it or you don't.
Kreider has the Flames on his no trade list, so that leave very few good targets this year. Adding Martinez was not going to push the Flames over the edge. I'd much rather see them focus on getting results out of what they have. All the pieces are there, they just need to re-learn how to play hockey again.

I think the flames are in the awkward predicament where doing nothing actually makes a lot of sense.
Treliving did nothing last deadline when he should have given the team a reward/boost. He should have done something in the offseason. Hoping to make the deadline your time to improve the roster is a terrible way to plan.
If last year didn't make sense to invest in deadline then making a move this year is beyond idiocy.
I am extremely disappointed in treliving. He should receive a failing grade as a team builder, for a full calendar year. He sure talks a great game, his performance and results are avg or worse when grading his gm tenure here.

Treliving on the Fan (paraphrasing):
Talked to some people who were moved yesterday but found the prices to be too much
If your are a piece or two away that might make sense
Interested in UFAs if the price makes sense
Would like to help team if he can but it has to make sense
(my edit - noticing a theme here)
Looking for under the radar players. Good solid 2 way players, depth players
Thinks we will see some hockey deals before Monday (doesn't specifiy if he means his own team, but may be foreshadowing)
Nault throws softball re: cap playing a role, this eats a bunch of time
Nault redeems himself asking how much they vette players to determine if they'll fit into the room. Treliving suggests some players you have years of background info and data on the player. (I hope someone follows up and asks about Neal lol)
Injury update:
Valimaki is skating but they still don't know how long he will still be out. Solo skates, working with skills coach. Power skating next
Krahn asks the equivalent of "Hey Brad, how are you doing through all this?"
Brad says its hard but you have to remove yourself from the emotion of it. Be objective in terms of where your team is at. Take que from your team (yeah this doesn't sound good)
Continue to look at RW and hope to upgrade (hints that this is a long term thing, not just the deadline)
Asked about Czarnik. Says he is playing well following high ankle sprain. Talks in circles about mix and putting Austin in position to succeed. Says they could see him back at some point.

Yup, they aren't doing anything. I am getting annoyed with treliving's gm-speak.

Punch up RW at the very least if they can.
I'm not confident this D corps simply for lack of experience can punch their ticket to the playoffs. I still say move Brodie now. This isn't the ONLY hockey season this core has. Theres 3 or 4 more. Build towards the near future.
And who knows, maybe they make the dance and then they have the welcome additions of rested and healthy Gios and Hammers.

Tre talked about the farm team, and how we have good depth there.
That’s about it. Cp crashed for me too

Yeah he talked about Czarnik for a bit and said he might get another look but they way he said it, it almost struck me as they view Buddy as having stolen his spot.

What about iginla? Could he come out of retirement in time? He meets the needs to a RW shot and is comfortable with the city and franchise. Additionally, while he might have lost something in terms of foot speed, the game of Tkachuk and Backlund isnt built around speed...so Iggy might be a great fit
More than anything, his presence could pump up the boys.
The only thing is that Iggy has to get up to speed, so this this happen to happen now for it to make sense

I think its pretty obvious that they don't like Czarnik, or that any shine he once had is all but gone. Black ace at best for him.

I thought his justification seemed reasonable. Sounds like they prefer guys with size and some tenacity in their game for the 12/13th forward. They clearly don't see him in a top 9 spot. Can't blame them.
Wonder if they should move him for a late pick. Throw the kid a bone.

None of the rentals, especially D, move the needle and the prices are stupid, so yeah, sit tight, unless there's a deal for a forward that makes sense. Then in a month if they are still in the hunt, Gio comes back and it's like a trade after the deadline. Challenge the team to hold it together until then. And if it all doesn't work out, I'm not opposed to a big retooling of the team.

I am not on board with this mentality. If you are in the GM chair right now are you buying or selling this deadline?
If you buy, you spend assets that could cost us in the future. If you sell, you are selling on a team that is holding down a playoff position.
Might be better to make less moves then make the wrong moves. That is what ends up making you the fool.

This hot streak does next to nothing for his trade value.

Not sure why people expect anything else. No reason to show his hand. The only time in the entire year that we might expect any honesty is the day after the deadline.
