Default Day 11 (PM of August 2 - AM of August 3)

As always check out the CBC Sports Website for streaming links, or CBC Gem of the CBC Olympics App. There's also some other non-Canadian content overnight like wrestling, other basketball, handball and some field hockey.

At 18:00 Canada takes on the state sponsored doping team in the Quarterfinal in Men’s Volleyball. I think this will be on SN or SN1.

Starting off at 18:00 Track & Field begins, most of the events should be covered on CBC. It begins with the Qualification for Men’s Triple Jump. At 18:05 Round 1 of the Men’s 1500m Heats start. Women’s Javelin Throw Qualification begins at 18:20, Liz Gleadle competes in Group A. At 18:45 Round 1 of the Women’s 400m starts, Kyra Constantine runs in Heat 1, Natassha McDonald is in Heat 5. The Final for the Women’s Long Jump starts at 19:50.

The Women’s K1 200m Semifinal begins at 18:30, this should be on either SN or SN1. Michelle Russell is in the first race, Andreanne Langlois is in the second race. The Final is scheduled for 20:30.

The Men’s C2 1000m Semifinals begin at 18:44, this should be on either SN or SN1. Roland Varga and Connor Fitzpatrick are in the second race. The Final should start at 20:45.

At 19:00 the Men’s K1 1000m Semifinals begin and it should be on SN or SN1. At 21:12 the Final is scheduled to start.

The Men’s 3m Springboard Diving Semifinal starts at 19:00. The Final is at 00:00 and I believe will be shown on CBC.

The Women’s K2 500m Semifinal begins at 19:23 and should be on SN or SN, the Final is scheduled for 21:39.

The Men’s 200m Round 1 begins at 20:05, Andre de Grasse tries to improve on the Silver Medal in this event from Rio in Heat 3, Aaron Brown is in Heat 5, Brendon Rodney is in Heat 7.

At 21:15 Race 9 in the 470 Men's Sailing begins. Jacob Saunders and Oliver Bone sail for Canada.

The Final of the Men’s 400m Hurdles begins at 21:20

The high-powered USA Basketball team takes on Spain at 22:40, this should be on TSN.

At 23:00 Canada takes on the USA in a Quarterfinal match in Women’s Water Polo.

At 00:30 the First Round of the Women’s Team Pursuit Track Cycling begins, Canada and France are in Heat 2. The Final is scheduled for 02:05.

At 01:22 the Men’s First Round in Team Pursuit Cycling starts. Canada and Germany are in Heat 1.

The Final for Men’s Parallel Bars begins at 02:00.

Brazil faces Mexico in the first Semifinal in Men’s Soccer at 02:00. The second Semifinal Match sees Japan take on Spain at 05:00.

Also at 02:00 the Men’s Combined, Speed Qualification for Sport Climbing starts. Sean McColl is the Canadian competitor. At 03:00 the Bouldering section will begin. At 06:10 the Lead section begins.

At 02:53 the Final in the Women’s Beam begins. Canada’s Ellie Black, 5th place finisher in Rio, returns from the injury that kept her out of the All-Around Final. American superstar Simone Biles is also expected to return to competition. I believe this will be carried live on CBC.

At 04:00 Qualification in the Equestrian Jumping starts. Mario Deslauriers is the Canadian competitor.

At 04:10 Round 1 of the Men’s 110m Hurdles begins. At 04:15 Qualification in the Men’s Shot Put starts, Tim Nedow competes in Group A. At 04:20 the Men’s Pole Vault Final begins. The ROC punishment, if it can even be called one, is a "maximum fine allowed by the CBA" slap on the wrist for Russia. Their medals are probably being grouped with Russia's lifetime olympic totals, their clothing gets to have the country's colors, and they get a Tchaikovsky song instead of the generic olympic anthem at medal ceremonies. I doubt this discourages anyone from doping in the future.

It is a complete joke, and it is insulting to athletes around the world that compete clean.

Volleyball observations

In the men's game I am surprised we don't see more bloody noses. The serves look like bullets. Guys returning serves getting knocked backward. Surprised they don't radar gun that as part of the presentation. The time between spike and return reaction to get the ball is nearly superhuman.

Another observation

Handball goalies have to be either the bravest people in sport or the craziest. Or possibly both.

De Grasse looking pretty gassed there afterwards. Still a little tired from the 100m competition, combined with classic "Canadian in 38 degrees & humid" conditions probably.
