Until I saw Vavra's name, I always assumed this was a CFL hall of fame. Guess it really is a Canadian football hall of fame.
Hands up if you were one of the fans chanting we want Vavra at Stamps games back in the day.

That's disappointing...I will miss chanting "Go home Eskimos..." at the annual Labour Day game. They better keep the logo and colour trim.

I respected Vavra during his run with the Dinos. He was a good Canadian College Football QB, but he was in no way a Pro Level QB.
Canada has trouble developing QB's, probably a big reason is when the seasons happen at a amateur level takes away the passing game. And also because coaches are enamored with a run based Amateur playbook.

The stamps were awful in the mid 1980s. An all star college QB from the home town dinos should have been given a better shot. Instead we had datillio? And Johnson?

Don't forget the leftie. Threadgill.
Man the stamps were so hurting at QB. I remember being super happy we got a washed up Joe Barnes! and then we finally turned the corner with Danny Barrett and never looked back since.

Hey now, Hollywood Rick Johnson was an exceptional QB with exceptional grooming. He was on his way to great thing until he threw Rod Tidwell a suicide pass that caused Tidwell to learn how to end zone dance and learn the joy of the game. Johnson however faded into obscurity.
But really. He had a great arm, decent accuracy, but he was a poor decision maker. Datillio was probably the last actual starting quality QB in the CFL, since his retirement we've had

CFL could work, there’s only 4 or 5 games a week required.
9 teams.

With no ticket sales, how much tv money is on the line, assuming they can play at most 8 regular season games plus playoffs? I know there are other factors, but does the hub format even work economically? And presumably this will only happen with a government bailout?

Randy Ambrose should have named Sasha Trudeau as the starting QB for the Red Blacks.
This is significant news, as it is, we could be seeing real financial problems with the CFL even if they do play as this is a gate driven league.
I think that this puts the survival of the league in question.

If I recall correctly, Ambrosie set a date of July 23rd to essentially be a go/no-go as far as playing in 2020 is concerned. The announcement that Yoho posted above certainly makes it seem that it will be a no-go.

Yeah, your right, I remember that date. I doubt the league will go forward, and they're going to lose a lot of players that won't come back.

Dave Naylor tweeting that this isn't a surprise and the league never expected to get money from that source.
Negotiations continue with the government under a different branch/umbrella.
