In other tennis news, Pospisil, Peliwo, Polansky, and Schnur (sounds like a law firm) are are playing at the ATP Challenger event in Charlottesville. Polansky was eliminated yesterday, but Pops and Peliwo won their respective first matches while Schnur plays his first match this morning.

Shapo and partner Rohan Bopanna have advanced in men's doubles at the Paris Masters as they defeated Paire and Verdasco 6-4 7-5. I think there's little doubt that the improved singles play of Denis in the latter part of this year has a lot to do with how much doubles he has played with Bopanna as they seem to have great chemistry as a pairing.

Just finished watching Dimitrov eliminate Thiem 6-3 6-2. Grigor was just on fire today and could do no wrong.

Shapo and Zverev are warming up and TSN3 has the match.

Denis with an early break. Serving at 2-1
Edit: Make it a double-breaker for Shapo in the opening set.

Easy first set win by Shapovalov, and one destroyed racket by Zverev.

Here's a question - When a guy decides to break his racquet on a set point, should his opponent be awarded the set? Fortunately, it didn't faze Shapo and he wins the opening set 6-2.

Ehh, I think warning --> point penalty --> game penalty works fine.
Sometimes you gotta get that frustration out too. Just ask Shapovalov... a racquet smashing moment was the turning point in that tournament he won a couple weeks ago.

One thing is for sure, since Youzhny came on board, the return game of Shapo is much improved.

Yup, too bad Shapo didn't break Zverev in the opening game of set 2, it's likely the German would have folded the tent. Now Zverev is up a break.

Denis breaks right back and we're back on serve.
Edit: Huge hold from 15-40 down to consolidate that break

Some superb tennis from Denis again today. It is really starting to look like he's figuring it out under the coaching of Youzhny.
A few months ago I wouldn't have thought I'd see Shapo winning 90% of his 1st service points and generating 12 break points (through 2 sets) in a high profile match like this.

Come on Denis, just find a way to get this to a tie break!

Darn, we need a 3rd set to determine a winner. Denis had a couple of opportunities to get into a tie-breaker, but just couldn't cash in.

I'll give odds to Shapo in the final frame considering he's returning better than Zverev by a decent margin.
