I could have rendered this in MS Paint for what it's worth. For $500M+ this is a pretty underwhelming design.

Looks pretty plain to me, but I am not sure that is a bad thing. Compared to the Saddledome it looks amazing, but not a cool as the new BMO Centre or Library.

They're going to name it after a sponsor.
Or, Calgary being Calgary, the "Climate Hoax" Centre.

IMO exterior isn't nearly as important as interior. It looks fine to me. Maybe a little too much like a movie theatre or shopping mall but I'm a proponent of the old style brick building as those seem to age the best and this at least won't look goofy in 15 years like the arena up north.

Waiting for one of the people saying they hate it to make up their own rendering. I think it looks fine, and the inside is all that reaalllly matters

It's bland as ####, but whatever about that. Only thing that really matters is they don't make concourses big enough for trucks to be stationed.

I like it. Better than that monstrosity up in edmonton. ####ing space porkchop is a blight to their traditional stalin era soviet architecture.
I think the design looks much more conservative and timeless. Anything trendy just ends up looking like #### in 10 years. Or in Edmonton's case, immediately.
Kinda looks like a piano.

I'm just hoping the Corral is the constant, like Saddledome.
The Suncor Corral!
The United Conservative Party Corral!
Rolls off the tongue.

meh...a bit tough to tell, but typically you render what you think is the 'best' view...
nothing worse that putting out a bad image... so if this is the best image, its a bit underwhelming.
It should be noted that arenas are super tough due to the scale you are dealing with...that's why I like stadiums/arenas that you enter at grade on the concourse and the lowe bowl is actually below grade, so you hide some of the height...
Inside experience will be more important for sure, but having a good interface with the street should be the second biggest consideration.

No, they need to make the concourses bigger, so the trucks that will be there don't create choke points.

This is so true and why I was afraid after CalgaryNEXT that the Flames were going to blow this.
Hard to say from that rendering but it looks like it interacts decently, so far.
Also agree with entering at grade would be nice as it would decrease the mass but I think flooding concerns in that area would make them think twice about that.

The whole frontage of 4th (That glass pavillion) is retail and restaurant, so that will make a nice experience on that street. 12th also has some retail frontage. There are two smaller sets of entrances on each corner on 12th.
