We are in Vegas right now.
The mass of humanity is glorious.
Cases continue to grow at staggering rates here and across the US. We operate under the assumption that vaccines are protecting us, but are masking indoors simply due to the high levels of spread - though at least 80% are not masked.
No wonder Delta is ripping through the masses of unvaccinated. They'll get their immunity soon, or die along the way. I am good with either outcome.

I enjoy and agree with your scorched earth/Darwinism approach to the way you judge the masses.

I/we have zero concerns about my vaccine protecting me/us.
If this proves wrong, so be it.
Will also live my life protecting me and mine and be unconcerned about the idiots who don't get jabbed.
In America there will be no further restrictions, ever. Everyone who chooses to risk dying is welcome to do so. No one here blames the government for their lack of response. We are personally responsible for us and ours. I'm good with that.

Flew from Detroit into Toronto and then connected to Calgary.

Entire process was unorganized and a mess.

I have Nexus which sped things up. No one ever checked my ArriveCAN receipt (not sure if it links with my passport, etc). I was only asked to provide paper proof of my vaccinations (uploaded the my health records and brought my paper copies with me). No questions about quarantine plans anything. Was given a take home test that I ended up doing in the airport but they didn’t have a drop off box which seems silly cause I flew back to Calgary with it for it to be addressed to Switch Health Labs back in Ontario. You schedule a time for purolator to pick it up.

Toronto forces you to grab your checked bag again and then re-check it with your airline. And then end up to go through regular domestic security again. Poor signage. Not a lot of staff. Have status with AC which allowed me to jump into the priority line but regular line looked super long. Ironically, domestic terminal in YYZ was by far the most condensed place I had been in my whole trip.

We're still hoping to get to Kelowna next week, but rising cases, the wildfire situation and TransCanada closures in the kicking horse are making us re-evaluate.

Yeah, we are similarly starting to doubt if we will actually make it out to Calgary. Regardless of how I feel about policy, rising cases and the likelihood of some shutdowns make the prospect a little less attractive.

The highway isn't closed assuming you drive through earlier than 10 pm.

For the summer its open 7 am to 10 pm. 8 pm - 10 pm may be single lane alternating traffic. Closed 10 pm - 7 am.

Might change randomly but thats the rough schedule.

I drove from Vancouver to Calgary on Friday and there were no lane stoppages or anything.

Disclaimer: you have every right to think I am foolhardy to be planning a trip to Europe this fall.

Things I am learning about travel to Europe:
  • France has no restrictions on Canadians entering
  • England (not the same as UK, but I am flying through London) does. As of today, Canadians need to quarantine for 10 days.
  • You can "transit" through London if you are staying less than 24 hours. You don't even have to stay airside, we are connecting to Eurostar and that is completely acceptable.
  • France has introduced a "health pass" to access a lot of the tourist attractions, restaurants, etc. It is not 100% clear how this will work for non-EU tourists but anecdotally bringing our record of vaccination should work out.

Prices seem not bad, everything has generous cancellation options. We are looking at doing a majority AirBNB to give us the option of less restaurants etc.

Definitely not something I would do, but I'm curious to hear how it goes.

I am interested too, in how the planning goes. I was thinking of aiming for Summer/Fall 2022 for a European trip.

Pretty much the scenario is if you are fully vaccinated within the EU, you are free to move around as you please. Canada is ''green zone'' for Schengen border entry so Canadians can come visit. Already ran into a couple Canadians visiting our city. My parents are coming from Canada next month to visit us and don't foresee any issues. Good deals to be had.

All of us are fully vaccinated so not worried.

The Nurse contract confirms this.

Out of curiosity, what are your parents doing to show proof of vaccination? We are travelling to Italy in September (If I recall, you're in Poland?) and trying to find out what constitutes proof of vaccination has been difficult. Just wondering what travelers to the EU have been doing seeing as we in Alberta have neither a provincial or a federal vaccination passport. Thanks!

I had this discussion with my Dad and apparently there is a way on the AB healthcare online profile account that generates some kind of certificate for you that updates when you get vaccinated. He also said when they got jabbed in Calgary that they got some sheet of paper signed by nurse. That paper on it's own likely isn't enough. But I would imagine that online AB healthcare certificate would work. I'm sure Canadian authorities have explained to Schengen border guards what the Canadian proof is. He plans on bringing everything with him.

The people I met from Canada here were already Polish citizen's by birth now living in Canada, so it was of course no issue for them. I'll ask my Dad next time I talk to him what their plans for proof are.
