I had forgotten about this movie so I stayed up late one night to watch it.

Then after it was over I realized why I had forgotten about.

Such a POS movie.

I've never seen The Happening. Is it so bad I should watch it?

Yup you should. It's bad. It's dry as the Sahara and about as tense as a marshmallow.

Like I'm shocked Shamalamadingdong got to keep making movies after this steaming turd

Like I liked the Village, the premise was cool. And then he redeemed himself with his unbreakable trilogy.

I remember disliking Lady in the Water and The Happening but decided to go see Old this weekend. I have to give M Night credit for taking risks, the guy never plays it safe.

I liked Old and forgave the wacky parts, the wishing time away and appreciating life came across and I found it effective.

But should he direct the final episode of Ted Lasso?

Also The Visit is one of the greatest horror films of all time.

I think I would have enjoyed Old a lot more if I didn't see the trailer. When you anticipate 80% of the movie, it kind of kills the tension.

I was satisfied with the ending though.

I saw the Devil was phenomenal. That scene with the 3 serial killers in the car was insanity. Great flick.

The original Old Boy was another gooder.

I went to a screening of Jungle Cruise last night.

The similarities between this and 1999's The Mummy are almost laughable, from the plot structure, the character's very personalities, the local tribe who's knowledge is key to advancing the main characters' quest, quasi-supernatural villains. Even the humour felt familiar.I hesitate to call it a knock off, but they certainly reused the formula - and didn't even bother to tweak it.

The FX were generally pretty good, but some scenes were Xena-level bad. One in particular when a submarine surfaces and I almost LOL'd it was so bad.

Emily Blunt and Dwayne Johnson are both incredibly likeable, and that alone elevates the movie to a 6/10.

Side note: as someone who sees 20-30 movies a year, Scotia Chinook Mall is unquestionably the worst theatre in the city: COVID aside, it's dark, dingy, the floors are sticky, the theatres have old junker seats (I'm 6'6 and had instant flashbacks to why I stopped going to the theatre for a decade.)

Throw COVID into the mix: it was crowded, maybe 10-15 other people were wearing masks in the promenade. Lines were long (two popcorn out of, I dunno, 10, 14 open - and right next to each other), zero social distancing going on, people have thrown six-feet of space out the window. And the theatre was 2/3 full.

It was very anxiety-inducing.

You deserve what you get when you go see a movie in Chinook. I haven't been there in like 10 years when the A/C was not working in the middle of summer! haha

I caught it last night as well and also loved it. Visually stunning, pacing is slow but there is so much to soak in, they achieved quite a bit without a massive budget, actors were incredible. It's confusing as hell but I imagine will get better on the 2nd viewing, I went in blind on purpose but almost wish I did some reading first. Not for everyone, the Fast & Furious crowd will absolutely hate it.

Lesson learned

I'd been before, but usually limited run films, or later in their lifecycle, so we'd be placed in the smallest auditorium with the worst screen - and it'd be more understandable. But even then, it would be a weekday afternoon and not busy at all.

But their AVX auditorium? Come on. It does make me wonder why it's one of the last theatres in the city to be updated. Crowfoot is where I usually go, and man is it nice now. Or Westhills, while no reclining seats, it blows Chinook out of the water.
