That still doesn't really stop somebody along the river pathway from picking them up at night and tossing them in the river.... not that I am advocating that *cough* *cough* do it!* *cough*

Just ripped one from my office to Eau Claire for lunch and back. Saved probably 15 minutes in walked. Awesome if you ask me.

Also the eyesore comments are hilarious. There are so many more things downtown that are much bigger eyesores than a couple scooters every block.

See that's your problem, you're thinking inside the box. Rather than saying the scooters aren't an eyesore because there are worse eyesores, why not apply the solution to all the eyesores? I hereby submit my proposal to have no e-scooter parking on the river pathways and along major thoroughfares, AND no homeless people zones in the same area. Think of all the eyes we'd be saving from soreness!

Homeless people will just need to log into the new e-hobo app before they terminate their day, and the app will let them know if they are in the home zome (err home-less zone) and able to end their trip there. If not, they will risk fines and impoundment, just like the scooters.

Homeless people aren't eyesores. They're people.

It's those rusty utility boxes on every corner that are the eyesores downtown.

Terrible sidewalks, building envelopes, streets, etc...

E-scooter riders continue to wheel into the ER

E-scooters are all the rage in Calgary right now, but riders continue to get injured.

Alberta Health Services says since Jul 10, 2019, 145 people have ended up in the emergency department from scooter-related injuries.

AHS says the majority of the visits were to the Alberta Children’s Hospital and the Sheldon E. Chumir Health Centre

You’ve got to be a complete idiot to wreck yourself on those scooters, they’re pretty tame.

I’m not sure why chemgear is so passionate about the number of people getting hurt. They’re a tiny bit of fun, let you move around downtown nice and quickly without getting in and out of your car, and overall seem to be pretty popular. I’m a huge fan of their addition to the city.

If I went to the hospital I would not admit that I fell off a scooter.

So the real number is higher.

Fun for riding. Being a bystander, not so much.

I would be sure to emphasize I fell off a scooter to help with my frivolous lawsuit.

If you wreck yourself on an e-scooter than you have bigger issues that need to be looked into. Man this world is getting soft....

Agreed. If you're going in straight line and aren’t carving like an A Hole you should never spill. People that bail are either trying to be a hot shot or just have zero awareness of their surroundings.

I think it’s a fun thing to have around. People seem to enjoy them and it’s a quick way to rip around DT. God forbid people are enjoying the simple things of life.

So it costs about 100k per month in medical expenses to operate scooters? Would that be about correct? Just roughly about 1.5 million by the end of this experiment?

Depends if actual emergency room visits are up overall. Drunk people and kids tend to hurt themselves so are the people getting hurt new injuries or just injuries that would have occurred by this same ground doing something stupid.
