Earliest it could start is March 1. It's over

Looks like part of the lifting of restrictions on Feb 6th is kids sports, probably too late for hockey, but could open up other sports.

Ringette Alberta had sent some stuff out a couple of weeks ago. Basically outlining a plan if restrictions lift by Feb 11.
Honestly pretty decent communication from them through the process. But it appears the season is done.

Super disappointed for my kid. He desperately needs something. At least he has school I suppose.
I can't imagine how upset the AAA kids and families are now that it looks like the academies have the green light to commence practices (assuming that is indeed the case). It will be interesting to see how this affects the WHL draft and recruiting.

By academies do you mean sports schools like Edge? Or things like the Hockey Canada Skills Academy through Calgary Catholic System?

I am assuming Edge, as the Hockey Canada Skills Academy has not run at all this year, as far as I am aware, at least not at our school. Global Sports also runs school sports academies in Springbank and other schools, I am not sure if those are running at all?
As far as other school sports are concerned, I don't know if they will automatically go ahead, as I think it's possible the school boards may not green light them even though allowed by the province?

I believe Edge has been operating their hockey program throughout the lockdown because they have their own rink.
Looking at the details, academies that do not have their own facilities are likely bound to the one on one training stipulation so perhaps they are not a go like I first assumed.

My girl she might, but hard to tell.
The big question is what do refunds look like for those that do not want to play hockey in March/April.
The lack of communication is exceptionally frustrating from me.

That is my issue. You have to think they have thought out all the possible outcomes by now. It all feels very reactionany.

Lack of communication is super frustrating.
If I had to guess they will pro-rate the ice used against what the normal allotment for the season would have been and refund based on that. There will be some fixed costs that are not refundable I'm sure. My beer league emailed us to say if the season is cancelled they will prorate based on games played before the shutdown but insurance is non refundable so we don't get that back.

It is the pro-ration calculation that concerns me.
In short, my son had 5 weeks of hockey, the association had no costs beyond ice, no refs.

I guess I am confused by the talk of releasing a "plan" on Feb 8, the press release on the HC website from Friday also mentions Feb. 8. Why would it take that long?
Chris Kobelka from Hockey Calgary was on the radio yesterday. He didn't have much to say except that he was waiting for a decision from Hockey Alberta. I thought he said that he hasn't/doesn't talk directly with AHS... hope I heard that wrong.

Alberta Basketball has been quite good. They also cancelled their season right from the start which perhaps was the smart way to go.

AAA, AA, Tiered league games concluded for 2020-21 season
Quote:
Hockey Alberta, in conjunction with its Leagues that oversee Tiered, AAA and AA hockey, has concluded regular league play for the remainder of the 2020-21 season. The decision was confirmed on Tuesday afternoon.
While youth leagues play is concluded for this season, Hockey Alberta continues to focus on working with our Members to explore all options that could comprise a spring development season when Step 2 of the Government of Alberta’s “A Path Forward” (announced on Friday) comes into effect. Hockey Alberta will be working closely with those organizations that have access to facilities and/or have players interested in playing to ensure that those who are interested in playing can have that opportunity, when our sport is allowed back on the ice.
