This thread angers me. Not towards the people who have posted, but to Bell. I called last month to get another HD unit so that we had something to connect the new basement TV to. I told them our situation, contract ending, looking at other options, new baby on the way, trying to save money, etc, and the 'best they could do' was to do either a PVR free for a year, or an HD only unit free for two years (Both $240 value).
I talked about getting Movie Central, to see if there's anything they could have done to help us out, and they said they could credit MC up to the $240, but then we'd have to pay for our rentals.
We have cell phones with Bell, our bill is paid out of our account automatically... there's not much available outside of speciality channels and premium channels that we don't already have. I think there's only 1-2 digital packages and 1 HD package we don't subscribe to.
We did however get a free install visit ($50) out of the deal. I think I'm going to have to make a phone call that 'the best they could do' was, in fact, not the 'best they could do'.

So, I just called...
Talked to "retention" about not being offered the free rental, AND 20% off my bill. After holding, and talking to other people who couldn't do anything for me, I am told that they don't offer more than one option at the same time, and for me, because I signed up a month ago, they can't do anything else for me until the 1-2 billing cycle to apply the discount I agreed up to get it set up goes through, there's nothing else they can add to my account.
Long story short, he basically called anyone who got both a free rental, and a percentage discount at the same time a liar, and didn't want to offer me anything else today, that I'll have to call back in a month and they'll 'look at what they can do, but can't guarentee anything'.
Not happy right now.

When I talked to Bell for my mom, the guy on the other end of the phone tried to tell me this when I asked for a free service call to fix the whole 'being able to watch her pvr in another room' service that the first installer didn't put in right. He said they could only choose one promotion: 20% off, 3 free months of movie channels or a free service call. He said there was no way the system would accept 2 of them.
I repeated my calculations about what Telus would save her, and pointed out they would come out to install her new PVR for free. There was no way she was going to remain a Bell customer if they didn't at least get her equipment working.
It took him about a minute of humming and hawing before he suddenly 'remembered' that he could just apply an account credit op top of the discount offer. So she got a $75 credit, the tech came out and she was billed $75. Still got her %20 discount every month.

The key word here folks "Satisfaction Credit." It is independant of any other credits; and I think retentions may be the only people who can do it.
That's how I got CI a number of years ago for the discount on the mis-printed French ad.

Bell has launched "On Demand" service reportably in 1080p on 5 channels (1000). This only works on the PVRs 9242 and 9241 as it's in MPEG 4 and requires an internal Hard Drive.
