How many Flames legacy offspring are in the league? What kind of a line-up could you build?

Nylander(s) Reinhardt(s) Colin Wilson, Adam Lowry ... who else?

Have to imagine Leafs make an effort to get him out west. Can't see too many teams being a perfect fit outside of Minnesota who has been doing surprisingly well despite their initial gloom about not having a 2nd wave of stars replace Parise and Suter.

He's officially on the block if it's been communicated to other GMs. That can a be rumour if the media doesn't have it on record. Simple.

Not saying we should trade or that this would even happen but I do love the thought of a insanely lethal forward group:

Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm
Tkachuk - Backlund - Nylander
Bennett - Jankowski - Neal
Frolik - Ryan - Czarnik
Hathaway, Dube

The price was would be crazy high though and the Flames need to focus on long term for Tkachuk/Bennett and goaltending... still though lol.

Potential ties for him coming to Calgary:
Hamonic could be desired by Leafs/History with Tavares
We have a few veteran rightside D’s to begin a package offer (Hamonic, Brodie and to a much lesser extent Stone)
Nylander’s dad played here/he was born here
His agent is Johnny Gaudreau’s agent
Team looks like a winning team
Lots of Swedish teammates - Backlund, Lindholm, Andersson, Kylington

This is a lethal top six. Unfortunately, I think Carolina has the inside track with Faulk, Hamilton or Pesce as RH shots. The downside for Toronto is that they're not getting anyone back to replace Nylander on the top-6. And that's where I think Calgary could come in and offer something that offers more immediate value - which is helpful if Toronto wants to go all in. And with Matthews and Marner coming off entry level, it might make sense to go all in.

Say the flames offered:
1st round pick+2nd round pick+Stone+Neal+jankowski
for
Nylander

Stone is probably good enough to be in their top four. Neal would also be in their top six. Jankowski is better than Par Lindholm. First and Second round pick could be used to flip for assets.

Hymen-Matthews-Neal
Marleau-Tavares-Marner
Johnson-Kadri-Kapanen
Lindholm-Jankowski-Brown

Rielly- Zaitzev
Gardiner-Stone
Dermott-Hainsey

And then, say Toronto tries to flip the 1st and 2nd at the deadline for Eberle or Skinner or Edler. Then the team looks substantially better positioned than with just Pesce or Faulk or Hamilton for a cup run.

Any time you offer up your big UFA signing a month into the season is a big red flag IMO for me.

If I was a player who was a UFA - Calgary would be at the bottom of my list if they trade long term contracts right away.

yeah...but did you see what the flames top-6 would look like? And its not like neal is being traded to a bottom feeder. he'd be going to a stanley cup favorite.

worth the reputational risk imo.

It is a weird thing to do and rarely happens. The contract goes with them so I don’t think it’s that big a deal. Is James Neal crying if he got traded back to Vegas or Pittsburgh? I doubt it.

I could be a little cynical but the older UFA’s are signing for money and term above all else in most cases. Certainly true for guys like Brouwer and Neal.

Not sarcastic,

love his play, and feel he consistently does everything but score and is owed a few, so i would really hate to deal him and start seeing the pucks go in while he is not with the Flames.

Wouldn't deal Hammer either as he is playing well.

As much as Nylander would add, honestly i dont think the Flames could afford him as:

A: We have depth for the first time since ever.
B: Everyone seems dialed into the system and dominating games for the most part.
C: Nylander would be commanding a high salary
D: The Leafs would probably want the farm for him

Possibly an outside shot at Vegas too, vegas has some interesting goaltending/defense prospects. Not the perfect fit that Carolina would be however.

Carolina, Nashville, Philadelphia, Minnesota, LA, are teams I think might make the move for nylander.

Kinda surprised that Neal’s name brought up, I would put him in a package for Nylander in a heartbeat ‘reputation’ be damned. Zero chance Toronto would take him but I do think that is the only way you can do a Nylander deal salary wise unless there’s another 5-7m forward or DMan you’re willing to send the other way (there isn’t). And isn’t the point that Toronto is trying to shed salary? Anyway I don’t think there is any reasonable deal to be made for Nylander even though I love the idea of it.
