I understand she already had mobility issues but to me it's not that far of a fall so I can understand getting seriously hurt or breaking something, but not losing the ability to feel one's legs.

Again, not disputing the story, just curious how it would happen.
Spinal cord got severed in the fall.

I could see that happening, if a person landed back first onto one of the tracks.

One of the sad side notes to this story, this woman was not working due to her health issues, so doesn't have any supplementary insurance like Blue Cross. I'm not one to normally give to Go Fund Me's, however this seems to be an obvious exception.

Has anyone set one up? I'd definitely contribute to that. Like you, the GoFundMe thing comes off a little weird and automatic these days for any hardships, but this story was already horrible and to find out she has no additional coverage/insurance is just heartbreaking.

On November 8th, Rozalia (Rose) was the victim of a random attack in Calgary, Alberta. She was pushed onto the CTrain tracks and has suffered life-altering changes that will prevent her from returning home (news article link below). The doctors and medical team have advised the family she will require permanent medical supervision in order to live day-to-day. Rose was a single-mother her entire life and was unable to work due to a permanent disability, therefore, has no medical or disability insurance to assist with the recovery and new living expenses. The family appreciates any and all assistance. We thank you in advance for helping a mother and grandmother through a very difficult time. The funds received will be utilized for rehabilitation, medical bills and long-term care.

here are serious mental health concerns for the Calgary woman accused of trying to kill an unsuspecting C-Train traveller by pushing her off a platform.

Stephanie Favel, 35, is charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and breach of probation.

Defence lawyer Adriano Iovinelli told Judge Paul Mason there are concerns about Favel's mental health and asked that she return to court Wednesday morning to see a forensic psychiatrist.
As per why she is paralyzed.

Meichl's family said she had a pre-existing condition that involved a spinal fusion, so the drop severed her spine

Well the train didn't hit her, so that's why people are curious.

https://calgaryherald.com/news/crime...1-d3659d0b72d3

Shoving a stranger off an LRT station platform as a train approached, causing her victim catastrophic injuries, has landed a Calgary woman a 4 1/2-year prison term.

Favel, 35, earlier pleaded guilty to a charge of aggravated assault in connection with an incident last Nov. 8, at the Stampede/Victoria Park station where Rozalia Meichl, 64, was shoved onto the tracks below.

Surveillance videos of this incident showed Favel walk up beside Meichl and hip check her off the platform.

Meichl landed on the back of her head and neck and suffered life-altering injuries.

She is now permanently wheel-chair bound.

“This was a random attack,” he told Van Harten during sentencing submissions, of the need for a severe punishment.

“This was completely unprovoked, Ms. Meichl did nothing … to cause Ms. Favel any anger.”

Taylor said the fact a train had been announced and was pulling into the station as the shove occurred made the crime more serious.

Spoiler!

Yeah, sure seem like they treated it more seriously.

That is unbelievable. What a garbage human.

4.5 years seems exceedingly light.

4 1/ 2 years, and this is her second time trying to murder someone.

Utterly ridiculous

I don’t understand why we differentiate between attempted murder and murder when sentencing occurs. Why does it matter that this person suffered permanently debilitating injuries versus dying.

To me this crime was similar to 2nd degree murder and should be life in prison with no possibility of parole for 10 years

^^^^^^^

Is it common for life in prison for second degree murder? I thought that was usually first degree.

This psychopath should be deemed a dangerous offender, it's the second time she's tried to kill someone in an unprovoked attack.

Likely out in 1-2 years.

There was a murder at a C-Train station in Calgary where the victim was crushed to death and the murderer originally sentenced to 12 years. Then down to 5.5 years on appeal. They ended up only serving 3 years.

Its like differentiating whether a high stick drew blood or not.

Also a stupid rule.

I get for Manslaughter type offenses and DUIs why the consequence matters but when there was intent why should your competence at murder matter.
