Is it the idea of getting Puljujarvi - who is RFA? CGY eats more money on that deal.
What's the draw?
It is interesting that many see Talbot as being able to have a bounce back year, but not Neal?

Well there is still a belief by some/many that you still need toughness in the lineup.
Oilers still have Kassian
Canucks have Ferland and Roussel
Vegas has Reaves and Engelland
Sharks are a big team with some tough guys like Kane
I could see why Tre would be interested in Lucic.
Ferland never did anything in the games against Edmonton when Lucic was around. If the Flames end up against the Canucks in a playoff series, the last thing you want is Ferland running around doing what he did against the Canucks.
It's still a part of the game and Lucic's production last year wasn't that much different from Neal's.
We also saw Maroon, who is a similar player to Lucic, be effective in the playoffs despite struggling in the regular season.
Lucic would bring some things that the Flames don't have.
If Flames could get Pull-Rv as well as a sweetener and Lucic waives his expansion draft protection, I think you have to strongly consider it.

They both had crap years last year. But Lucic also had a crap year prior to that and plays a game that just has little place in the NHL any more. Neal has had only one down year and at least showed he could contribute on a fast team like Vegas.

Off Season Trade rumours thread - Brodie, Frolik, Stone etc. Only

Ok, so to save 7 million they’d hamstring the team by taking on a 4th liner with a NMC and lose someone important to Seattle? Never mind that Neal, as bad a season as he had, has a way bigger chance of bouncing back than that knucklehead Lucic, who is slower than a grandma with a walker and is pretty much only useful as an ogre.
I don’t envision any scenario in which Treliving considers this for even a second, unless he can somehow get Lucic to state in writing he plans to waive his NMC for expansion. Sabotaging the team to save a few bucks has not been a part of this team’s MO since the turn of the millennium.

I could potentially see a deal around Brodie for Toffoli. Virtually same cap hit with one-year remaining for both. Trade would address needs for both teams.

I mean, I'd probably be able to stomach something like this but would be so absurd and unheard of to see a swap of this magnitude between 2 big time rivals.

Oilers suck. Canucks suck. Vegas came back to earth. And even though I don't like him, Kane's primary use isn't as a tough guy.
If we're getting a tougher guy from the OIlers I'd rather have Khaira, if he could reproduce his season before last.

Would do that for sure.
Lucic and JP for Neal would be alright if Lucic's NMC was not honored after the trade.

Pretty sure Tre is targeting a top 6 forward. Something like that with Edmonton is all that would work for us.

Yeah, probably slanted too far in the Flames favour unless they think Janko will break out. RNH would be a good add for us

If we’re taking Lucic they have to add something significant

Not if they’re also taking Neal. The difference between Neal+Jako vs Lucic+PRV is not even close to RNH, movement clauses aside.

Yes it is.
I break it down as Lucic Puju for Neal
Brodie Jankowski for Nuge

Missed Brodie, but even then I don’t think one year of TJ gets them to part with one of the few legit NHL forwards they have.

RNH is far too valuable to the Oilers to take such a low return from the Flames, being rivals and in division and what have you.

Lucic needs to be a big no for any cap team.

It’s probably Smith for Talbot.

After narrowly missing out on Kadri for the 2C role, maybe it has something to do with RNH for Brodie +?? Perhaps not likely, but more appealing than anything involving Lucic.

Why does Edmonton trade their 3rd most valuable forward though? RNH is the only guy who looks like he cares about playing in his own zone amongst that entire basket of dog turds, and they have no reason at all to move him. Especially not to their biggest rivals.
