I'd make sure to play as the Canucks and then once you get to the final teams they'll all be Vancouver and that'll even the tilt.

I haven't played an NHL games in a long time, but it's a 1v1 game (one person plays for the whole team) in this tournament? Do the NHL games have an e-sports scene?

If is anything like FIFA it'll be good. Those games are played at a really high level.

Competitive NHL will be a lot of cheese and glitching. I'm interested to see how this goes. I would be interesting in playing for sure.

Nice. I'm actually curious to watch this. Fan interaction with eSports players is so different than in traditional sports, it'll be interesting to see how the NHL treats this.

official rules available here: https://support.faceit.com/hc/en-us/...Official-Rules

Some highlights:

Quote:
3.1 Game Settings

Each game must be created using the following settings:

The Player on the left in the Match Room on the FACEIT platform shall create the Online Versus lobby in NHL 18. That Player is responsible for setting up the lobby with the correct settings as detailed below. If the incorrect settings were used and it is deemed by an admin that the Player affected the outcome of the game, this may result in the hosting Player forfeiting the match.
Therefore, it is crucial both players pay attention that the correct game settings are used.

If any game settings are not mentioned in the list below, they shall be left at the default value.

Game Mode: Online Versus
Difficulty: All-Star
Period Length: 4 Minutes
Game Type: Competitive
Rules: Custom
Fighting: On
Penalties: On
Injuries: Off
Offsides: Delayed
Icing: Hybrid Icing
Tie Break: Continuous Overtime
Control Goalie in Shootout: On
Teams: Any Current 2018 NHL® Team (with standard rosters of current NHL only)
Music and Announcers turned off
Quote:
7.1 Forbidden in-game actions

The following actions are strictly prohibited during a game and can result in a Player’s account being suspended and the offending Player being disqualified from further participation in the Tournament:

Using any form of external script
Using bugs which change the game principle
Using any 3rd party software that isn't allowed by the game publisher and that can give an unfair advantage to a Player or team
Using any communicative device
Using guest accounts to compete
Not having a full copy of the game
Cheating
Exploiting a bug or glitch in the software
Causing another Player to be dropped or disconnected from the software

(at the Shelbyville Stadium, a long line of people are waiting to get tickets for the game, and Homer, who is sleeping in a sleeping bag, is second in line. Homer snores a bit, turns around, sits up and yawns as he wakes up)

Homer: (chuckling) I did it. Second in line, and all I had to do was miss eight days of work.

Just Stamp the Ticket Man: With the money you would have made working, you could've bought tickets from a scalper.

Homer: In theory, yes. Jerk.
For whoever wins this, it will probably work out to about $3/hr.

Really dislike the 1v1 format too. This isn't FIFA 18. Locking yourself to one player, unlike in soccer, is way more intense. It really adds to the atmosphere of the game overall. I haven't played a game of 1v1 vs or HUT since NHL 12.

It actually forces you to learn the position rather than letting the AI take over as soon as you pass it up to a forward. Small hockey things like where to skate to recieve a pass, which parts of the ice to cover, when to make a pinch or which lane to have your stick sweep covering.

I play defence and the concentration level and intensity is such that the cushioning pad for the left stick on my controller was completely torn off after a year of use... it's just the hardened bare plastic pad now. Edge control and starts/stops... yeah. Skating is a huge huge factor in the gameplay right now.

And there's accountability too - if you mess a play up in 1v1 it's not like your AI teammates will give a crap, but I immediately guilt-trip myself if I mess up with 5 other teammates playing because I know I just let all of them down.

Interesting that they would go with NHL as their game for E-Sports.

If they knew anything, the best place to make money for dabbling in E-Sports would be either League of Legends, Dota 2, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

Am I missing something? Why would the NHL use any of those games over their own?

Its like, why do an esport. If you can go play the actual sport? It baffles me. Who would want to watch 2 people play nhl 1v1? When i can watch actual people play the crappy EA version of it.

Why the hell would they do that?

It's the NHL promoting their own sport. They will in all likelihood lose money on this and they know that.
