He wasnt/isn't going to be the difference between winning or losing a Cup. Didn't bring anything we can't replace internally or via UFA for less dollars.

If Treliving did nothing at the deadline people would be pissed. He solidified the blueline without giving up a pick in the first 2 rounds.

At what point do we realize that Treliving is simply not a good GM?

I don't mind it as a rental trade heading into the playoffs where he seemed to significantly improve the PP. Things didn't work out of course, but I get it.

Did he really improve it though? Honest question, I don't know.
Like, 4 extra goals?

In my mind, I'm banking on Hanifin/Andersson to take the next step into being a first pairing. After that a Giordano/Kylington pair, because I'm optimistic about Kylington, and think that he could become Brodie-esque. Valimaki on the bottom pair just needs a grizzled vet to show him the ropes. Gustafsson or Barrie don't fill that role very well.

It was certainly a fair-good value trade compared to the other deals on deadline day...some of you are just out for blood on everything. Flames PP was much better with him in the lineup.
1 team is gonna win the cup, all the other deadline deals where bad? With the injuries they Flames had to acquire a couple Dmen.
All this being said I wouldn't bring him back unless its a bargain

Prior to the trade, the Flames had 18th best PP at 19.9% in the regular season.
After the trade, the Flames had the 2nd best PP in the rest of the regular season at 35.7%
In the playoffs: 28.6% PP (also 2nd best).

I think he would have worked out much better if we never had the stoppage. More time to get the power play going and get some experience playing with the new guys.

To those who view this as a bad trade: would there have been a level of success in the playoffs that would have made it palatable? Or is this a bad trade even if we made it to the 2nd-3rd round and he put up 15-20 points?
It looks bad losing a 3rd for what we got out of him, but I think a big part of that is colored by the shortened season and lack of playoffs results.

Well, that suddenly makes me troubled about the fact that Gustaffson likely isn't coming back... seemed like the powerplay was pretty much the only time the Flames were generating scoring chances for the last part of the season and the playoffs.

Hard to measure how much of a direct impact he had of course, but the coaches also shuffled the makeup of the 2 PP units as a result of his addition. I'm not smart enough to figure out those advanced stats.
Gio moved down to QB the 2nd PP, and Dube moved up which seemed like a big change as well. But moving Gio down was obviously as a result of slotting Gustafsson into PP1. Perhaps Andersson in that spot (or Barrie?) next year produces similar depth and allows Gio to QB PP2 effectively.

So I just had a look at this:
Ward took over the Flames on November 25th.
Between November 25th and the February 24th trade deadline, the Flames had the 6th best PP% in the league at 23.7
After the trade the flames played 7 and were first in the league at 41%
Prior to Ward taking over, the Flames were 23rd in the league at 15.5%
