I hate that it's the nucks, but I'm really really happy for Ferdaddy. The guy is basically one serious concussion away from early retirement, and he at least made it to a UFA pay day. Here's hoping he goes on ltir before his brain becomes mush.

Glad to see Ferland get some money.

think this helps keep Bennett >$3MM? Have to think hte flames will elect 1 year contract to keep Bennett a RFA in 2020-2021

The people that are complaining about Treliving need to give there head a shake. What are you expecting him to do. He has clearly been active in the trade market and he clearly doesn't have a lot of money to spend in free agency with Tkachuk not signing anytime soon.

I love this! great value for his production.
People are saying he's injury "prone"... but he has played 70+ games for the past 5 seasons though...
The Canucks now have a log jam of forwards, I expect a trade or two will happen soon.
Welcome Ferkland!

Not saying Vancouver has had a great summer. Trading a 1st rounder with where they are is risky, the Myers contract is not great, but this is a good deal. Ferland, Miller, Myers, Hughes make them a much better team on paper than they were last year. I would say they are the most improved team in the division this summer.

Yeah agreed.
Term is a much bigger issue with dollars in the 3.5 to 4.5 range.
My concerns are of course injury and potential career ending concussion, but then also the fact that he likely has to change his game to make sure that doesn't happen.
He really shouldn't fight.

If it's 3.5, then they either have to trade some salary, or they think Brock Boeser is signing for something that starts with a 6...

Pretty happy for him, especially considering where he came from.
Was one of my fav players while he was here.

Or they expect him to get in on the 1 - 2 year deals at a moderate AAV, wait for cap to go up and then sign the big money deal.
Downside to the for the Canucks is it means Pettersson, Boeser and Hughes are all coming up at the same time.

3.5 x 4 is a pretty good deal, I would have been happy to see that contract on the flames personally.
This has not been a great offseason.

Decent AAV but the term is a bit long.
I really don't get why the Canucks are running towards cap hell when they should still be rebuilding. If the AAV is 3.5 mill, they're left with just 5 for Boeser. They've already given up a first for Miller, a decent supporting player, but will surely be in tight two years from now when Hughes, Pettersson and Demko are looking for new contracts.
What am I missing here? Even after such an active Summer they're at best a bubble wildcard team. Just doesn't make sense to me.

Maybe they're trading us Boeser for Frolik and Neal.
After all, there is only one Frolik and only one Neal, but does Jim Benning realize that there is only one Boeser?

Loved Ferland...at least what he was. For me the interesting question is...why didnt Carolina offer this?
I think what Ferland was in the playoffs against the Canucks and what he is today are two different players. I am glad he was able to cash in despite an injury heavy finish to the year. I am a big fan of the player and the story. I am disappointed today because of what he was...but honestly a bit relieved that the flames aren't strapped with this contract if injuries do take their toll.

Agreed. I think the Canucks could be on the playoff bubble this year. They are not nearly good enough to push for a Divisional playoff spot, but they should be in the conversation for a Wild Card in March.
But then again, if I were a Canucks fan this would all leave me fairly nervous. They have some nice, young pieces, but still several holes which will require longer-term filling than what has been acquired via free agency and trades this summer. There is clearly a mandate to make the playoffs now, and I think this urgency now hurts them down the road because they will be missing the home-grown talent on value contracts they will desperately need in two or three years.

It's pretty on-par. Not a deal, but not crazy. I wouldn't give him that much to play for the Flames though.
His health should be a concern.

What you are missing is the marching orders from an impatient, meddling team owner who has clearly set the playoffs at any cost as the goal for this year.
