They don’t have much choice after trading away their 1st. They had to go all in at that point.

They probably should not have traded their 1st.

Big fan of him as person. But you get a guy that either plays with edge and gets hurt or disappears for long stretches. Streaky scorer (1 assist in 7 playoff games this year).

Downside to the for the Canucks is it means Pettersson, Boeser and Hughes are all coming up at the same time.
|
With the contracts that have been signed recently, would you do this if you were him?
If it's me, I'm looking for 5 years with big money, then free agency. A bridge deal is a waste of earnings power IMO

What do they look like now?
Pearson - Pettersson - Boeser
Miller - Horvat - Ferland
Baertschi - Gaudette - Virtanen
Eriksson - Beagle - Sutter
Roussell
Goldobin
Edler - Stetcher
Hughes - Myers
Benn - Tanev
Markstrom
Demko
Better on paper for sure- I like this roster more than Edmonton's

IMO - While Treliving was polite regarding Ferland after the deal last summer, you have to think that Burke's public comments about Ferland quitting on the team were a group belief and not just his own. I get that people are upset that a beloved ex Flame is with a festering cesspool of a team but he clearly was not going to come back here.

Yeah, I guess so. The Aquilinis certainly see to be a greasy bunch, but I don't understand what their impatience serves. God forbid, I honestly liked the look of the Canucks and am shocked at how much they've seemed to undue by the rash of impetuous moves they've made this Summer.
Are they banking on a massive cap bump in 2021? I know everyone talks about the new US TV deal, but I'm still skeptical. I can only hope that they continue to mortgage their future by tying up salary with terrible contracts.
Come expansion time, they'll have Eriksson, Beagle, Roussel and Myers tied up with different NTCs.

Roussel goes on the third line over Sven. I think they're gonna find a way to offload Eriksson this summer too.

Echo what everyone else said. Good price if he stays healthy. At that price I would have loved to have him back.

I don't think Goldobin has a contract, and I can't imagine how he'd fit there now. So many left wings...

What will they have to give up along with Eriksson? 2021 picks? Young talent? They're already dismantling their future without having had a whiff of the playoffs.

Their big moves are adding the following;
Miller: $5.25 million
Myers: $6 million
Ferland: $3.5 million (speculated)
Miller is a good player who will help but Myers isn't that great and Ferland is very streaky and injury prone. All I see here is a 1st round pick and a lot of money ($15 million/season) spent to become "improved". What Western team is going to fall out of the playoffs for this team to sneak in next season? After all this has largely been a "playoff or bust" off-season for the Canucks.

Miller may be a good player but he's the type of complementary player you bring on to give you that final push. It's a good contract and I'm sure he'll do well but you're right, they brought on $15 million in salary to tie up a team that hasn't had a chance to prove anything yet.
Let's hope they "improve" their way into a 9th place finish.

The Canucks haven't made the playoffs in 4 seasons. Given the fairweather nature of the fanbase here I actually understand why the owners would favour a team more competitive now rather than hording draft picks and continuing to "be patient". Not sure how long rebuilds are supposed to last in today's NHL but I can see 4 years out being long enough before you'd want to see some results. They do already have some good young talent and at least on paper they've strengthened the team around them. I think they'll be a lot more competitive with this roster.

That's a decent deal for the Canucks. Ugh. I think their D is a definite question, but I think they are in a good spot to contend for a playoff spot this year.
It really annoys me that we keep giving money to 30+ over the hill garbage UFAs, leaving the flames out of contention on some pretty decent UFAs in their prime.

He has a 1st place team that had a bad playoff round - I like that he hasn't overreacted and done something instantly regrettable.
Congratulations, Ferland. There isn't a city I'd rather be rich in than Vancouver.

By acquiring Miller and Ferland they achieved what we couldn't either- create an (almost) entirely new top-6 line to compete. Time will tell if the players fit but I think it was an interesting set of moves. I also think that Myers has gone from overrated to underrated over the last few years, but we shall see. Hate the canucks but this new look lineup is much better than last years, and undoubtedly superior to what the oilers are going to ice next season.
