Reeks a little of finding any reason to criticize the management team instead of just admitting we have incomplete info.
lol, how have I criticized management?

They want to keep his AAV as low as possible after scoring just 8 goals.

The player sees things differently. The GM just admitted publicly he's surprised by the players camp on this one.

Maybe it's the difference between 1 way and 2 way but in the end that's still about cash as well.

How am I criticizing management?

Well I agree with Treliving/Management.

From my experience workers in a unionized environment want everything for doing as little as possible, therefore I can only assume that Mangiapane is another self-entitled unionized worker.

What an odd point to belabor.

Like, Treliving is looking to keep the AAV of EVERY contract as low as possible, right? We can both agree that keeping contracts low is one of the main parts of his job and perhaps what he's been most successful at?

How is it criticizing management to assume Treliving is doing his job? What is happening in this thread?

Meh, I'm not all that concerned with Mangiapane's potential holdout. If him and his agent are smart, they'd realize he's got a lot more to lose than the flames if he goes unsigned for a period of time here.

He's a bottom 6 player as of now. If he doesn't report to camp or misses part of the season, flames absolutely have to put a body there instead, and what if that body actually does well? What if Mangiapane has the usual struggles a player has should he miss training camp and now his roster spot goes into question.

It's cute for his group to be fighting the good fight here, but the flames frankly have a lot more leverage right now than he does. If he's willing to lose training camp time and the ability to fight for his spot on the roster (ie. why can't he be challenging for that 2nd line RW opening as an example) then perhaps he needs to be getting some better guidance from his representation.

Erikson-Ek has 2 seasons of 6 and 7 goals and just signed for 1.4x2

I'm just saying, the market comparables are there for Mangiapane. He's not off in the woods somewhere howling at the moon.
Once again ... what exactly is he howling? How can you pick the reasonable vs unreasonable side of a contract impasse that you know nothing about?

Because you're not a Flames fan? Don't like Treliving? Like the dark side of things?

Honestly don't know why you'd want a salary on a team you follow pushed upwards from an outside source.

Ya especially with only one season to boot. He really doesn't have much leverage here.

For sure.

It is somewhat ridiculous to jump to either side being unreasonable almost as a fact however.

8 goals in 44 games. What is there even to negotiate?

Sign your 2yr @ 1M, one-way deal, and lets move on.

What's happening is you've come out assuming the Flames are lowballing a player and then suggesting you'd laugh if he was offer sheeted.

Both are more of the anti-Flames/Treliving schtick we've seen for years now and you're getting called on it.

You tell me.

Fans don't usually laugh when bad things happen to the teams they follow do they?

For sure you can still be a fan, I offered a few other reasons too. Maybe you just like negativity more than an actual outcome for the team you're a fan of.

Maybe it's funny that in the Summer of the Offersheet the only players that get one would be Aho and Mangiapane.

Nah, It's probably because I hate the Flames.

Jesus.

Why would that be remotely funny?

Flash actually has no idea how many players received an offer sheet. We only really know who signed one (Aho) and that it was a silly move.

I am convinced that FW is a Flames fan. But to me it looks like his utter disdain for Treliving colours his perspective of every management decision and off-ice move made by the team. It's a personal bias he seems to have great difficulty seeing past, but that can happen to anyone who feels really strongly about something.

It's only funny I guess if you dislike the team, dislike the general manager, or maybe take pleasure in the disappointment of other fans of the team you're cheering for.

All viable.

The Market has been set. Clearly Mangiapane is being unreasonable. He is not worth over 1M - unless he is seeking a deal with greater term than two years which would be strange to say the least.

Sign a 1 or 2 year deal and prove your worth.

Brad Treliving likes these assumptions.

But comrade, easy on the union criticism.
