I think he'll be traded. Holland will want to start making his mark and Puljujarvi is an easy trade chip that still has some value.

He will eat the left over pizza so nobody has to worry about taking it to the compost and can entertain the kiddies by showing them how to lick their own nose.

BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT OF THE SEASON

The flip-side of the previous award, this award signifies the team or player who most wildly fell short of what collective wisdom said they should be.

WINNER: The Edmonton Oilers
The Oilers get the, uh, “honour” of being this award’s first repeat winners.
RUNNERS-UP: The Philadelphia Flyers, the Florida Panthers and the Buffalo Sabres
Uh... no.

The Oilers were NO GOOD! Wholly consistent with expectations. You can't be disappointed by predictable results.

Nicholson getting the OBC promotion while a new guy takes over his old job?

Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger
Expect the Oilers to name Bob Nicholson the Chairman of Edmonton Oilers hockey this morning. In addition the Oilers have hired longtime exec, Tom Anselmi to oversee the business side.

Interestingly Katz holds that position. I'm guessing its health related.

So they boot an OBC executive upstairs, and bring in *checks notes* a guy who most recently ran the Ottawa Senators.

Never change, Oilers. Never change.

If Vancouver is looking to add toughness, there's dozens of better options than Lucic.

The matter of factness of the statement tells me they probably asked for a deal as far back as 6-7 months ago and the oilers have dragged their feet up to this point.

I think it's basically the exact timeline as yakupov. Asks for a trade in november, oilers drag their feet, deadline passes and Yakupov's management confirms they asked for a trade and tried to get one done prior to the deadline with no takers.

We know this year that Puljujarvi was unhappy to not be playing in Edmonton this season which I think the Oilers then tried to placate by calling him up in, you guessed it, november. AKA, he was in the minors and didn't want to be there, asked for a trade and the Oil called him up to make him happy. Except being called up to the oilers isn't going to make anyone happy, so he still wanted to be traded.

The oilers were intent on trading him but probably couldn't get around the fact that he was badly injured at the deadline, so a deal couldn't be done. He went from available to having two hip operations in a week. Sounds very Oileresque.

Now, Puljujarvi's camp is pressing the public trade demand after the oilers bring in a new GM who probably soft pedalled his trade request, hoping to keep the player happy by telling him all sorts of sweet nothings about how things will be different next year.

That this is coming from MacKenzie and not Rishaug or Spector or even Dreger tells me this information is coming from the player's camp and they want it broadcasted loud and clear across the league that this player is simply not going to be in Edmonton next year no matter what.

It drives down the return, making a trade easier to facilitate and also doesn't hurt the acquiring team as badly, giving the player a better opportunity with a new franchise.

Basically, this is an unmitigated disaster from the Oilers perspective, and they are going to lose another promising young prospect for peanuts due to their own inaction and contempt for how hockey works these days.

This has Kevin Lowe written all over it.

I kind of get it. If Eriksson isn't scoring he isn't really doing anything for your team. If Lucic isn't scoring at least he can be a physical force. The fact that neither of them are scoring probably makes Lucic a little more valuable on the ice.

Would take Lucic over Eriksson all day, every day. The former is at least a strong body on the boards, the latter is a soft floater.

I remember Eriksson having a very strong two-way game. Something that doesn’t usually disappear with age. Has he lost that dimension? Out of the Bruins system and it wanes maybe? Thought he could at least do a Frolik-type job still.

I’d take him over Lucic if he still had that.

I disagree. Eriksson despite not playing top 6 or powerplay under Green over the past few years has outscored Lucic who has been given every chance possible to succeed in Edmonton on the 1st, 2nd line and powerplay. Eriksson is actually a decent 2-way player that doesn't turn over the puck. He's a guy with a change of scenery could see a bit of a bump in offensive production while Lucic is heading into deep decline. When you consider the contract discrepancy between the two players it's even more lopsided. The Eriksson contract is a bad contract but the Lucic contract is one of the worst in the NHL.
